MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 4 Episode 54
“I’m not an actress. I’m Emma Lin, an intern in the crew,” Emma replied with a smile, looking away, waiting for the rescue.
Her phone ran out of battery. She couldn’t contact anyone.
Her boyfriend would surely be worried and angry.
He would slap himself across the face every time he boiled with rage.
As long as he couldn’t contact her, he wouldn’t think twice of hurting himself. “Why do you hit yourself when you’re angry? You can scold me,” Emma once asked him.
James glared at her and said, “What’s the difference between beating you and myself? No, there is a difference. It will only hurt for a few days if I beat myself, but for a lifetime if I beat you.”
Every time he said so, Emma curved her lips.
She had never met anyone who was so stupid. But this stupid man moved her deeply.
‘James, I miss you,’ she thought to herself.
“Emma, Emma, where are you?” There was a muffled wail. It was James. In her hopeful prayer, she heard James calling outside the ruins. He seemed to be fending off some people, most probably the rescue team was holding him back in dissuasion.
However, James didn’t listen to these rescuers. He continued to shout, “Emma, can you hear me? Don’t be afraid. I’ll save you right away. Wait for me!”
The call grew louder and louder to Emma’s ears. She could discern the hoarseness in his tone and the trembling of his voice. Hope seeped into her heart.
Everyone deemed Emma as quiet and gentle as water.
But only James knew that she was actually ice and snow that had not melted yet.
What James didn’t know was that Emma’s icy tenderness had been slowly thawed by him.
Emma continued to listen to her boyfriend’s desperate howl. His fiery desperation reached her and it melted her heart. Tears welled up like spring. Emma covered her mouth, tears streaming down.
James came to her rescue.
He was looking for her.
Emma didn’t know how James knew she was in C City and in this particular store. Nevertheless, he had found her.
In her tear-gleaming eyes, Roman saw excitement and joy in her eyes.
“Is he your boyfriend?” As she steered her face in his direction, Roman had a long look at her and realized that she was beautiful.
She had brown and curly hair, thin black eyebrows, dark and bright almond eyes, and red lips. The faint fragrance of perfume clung to her body. She was dressed in professional clothes and trousers, oozing with female charm.
She fascinated him.
“Yes, my boyfriend.” Her face lit up like rainbow after the rain, making him forgetting his predicament in an instant.
Roman grinned and said, “Then he must be a mature, steady and excellent man.”
“No.” Sitting on the ground, Emma rested her head on her knees and described James. “He’s younger than me, childish, impulsive, irritable and clingy. He is bullied by his family, and then he would come to bully me.”
She smirked as she remember everything they’d experienced.
“Bully you?” Roman looked at her with a frown.
Emma nodded, “Maybe I’m easy to be bullied.”
“Really? Usually girls bully their boyfriends, right?” Roman looked at her in confusion.
“Maybe we’re different.” Emma turned to his direction and stared into his eyes. “Do you have someone you like?”
“No… Yes.” After a pause, Roman looked away. “Yes, I have.”
“Then you should know that if you like someone, you like to be bullied by that person.” Emma kept smiling gently.
“I like to be bullied by him.

I am not masochistic but like to be bullied by him,” she assured.
But it seemed that most of the time, James had not succeeded in bullying her.
One time, when James got drunk, he held Emma by her hips and fondled her waist. She pouted and hissed back. He quickly released her in regret.
He coaxed her in tender apologies. His breath wafted the smell of wine and almost made her suffocate.
Outside, a stream of survivors were being carried out of the ruins. “Emma, can you hear me? If you hear me, please answer.” A cloud of dust drifted in the air, as rescuers carried out survivors out of the ruins. James saw no familiar figure among the evacuees rushing out.
Some people’s legs and arms were broken. Their ragged clothes were stained with blood.
James became even more unsettled and restless. He kept walking and looking for Emma. His hands were fidgeting and his legs were trembling.
Even if Emma’s limbs were hurt, her voice wouldn’t be injured, would it?
It had been already twelve hours since the earthquake last night. She hadn’t eaten or drank anything for sure.
Hopefully, she should still have strength.
Suddenly, an idea occurred to James. He shouted to the crowd, “Emma, can you sing a song for me and let me know where you are?”
He turned around and yelled the same words at different directions, hoping that his lover could hear and give him a response.
“I look out of the window, imagining how to express my love to you. My mind is written all over my face, and there is no need to guess.” A faint melody buzzed behind boulders.
It was Emma’s voice. James dashed through the layers of barriers, ignoring the reprimand of the rescuers. With each step, her voice became clearer.
James did not want to hear anything else but this beautiful melody.
He heard it.
He heard the familiar voice from the ruins behind him.
“Emma!” His yell almost shredded his lungs. Suddenly, the song dwindled to her little cry. James’ heart ached and his eyes swelled with tears.
“Emma, don’t be afraid. I’ll save you right away. Don’t be afraid.” James tried to sound reassuring, but his voice trembled uncontrollably. He picked up the debris one by one with his bare hands.
It didn’t matter if his hands were scratched by the sharp, crinkled edges of the rocks.
He didn’t care about himself. He only knew that the woman he loved was still alive, could sing, and was waiting for him.
The rescue team also rushed over to help clear away the rubbles. A group of abled survivors flurried in to join them. Emma sang the song again and again, listening to the sound of digging outside. She felt at ease.
At last, the stone blocking Emma and Roman was moved away, and a ray of sunshine shone on their faces.
The sudden light blinded them and prompted their hands to block the sun. “Emma, come out. I’ll carry you out.” James couldn’t see her clearly against the light, but it was indeed Emma.
Emma only saw a tall figure. He stretched out a pair of strong hands and hugged her.
“James,” Emma murmured, tears streaming down her cheeks.
They caught each other in a reuniting embrace.
Emma was relieved she was finally again with the greatest support in her life.
He was the happiest thing that came into her life. And now, he saved her.
