Someone noticed that there was something wrong with the actress and asked her concernedly, “Alice, are you okay? Why are you shaking so hard? Are you sick?”

“No, no.” Alice held the cup tighter and forced a smile.

“I don’t think you feel well. Your face looks pale. You’d better go see the doctor. I’m afraid that you can’t continue to act.”

“Can you leave me alone?” Alice glared at the person impatiently. The thought that something might have happened to Emma scared her. “I’ve told you that I’m not sick!”

Everyone appeared stern and serious. They had saved themselves, but this natural disaster still took some lives.

They witnessed a lot of people’s breakdown and heartbreaks after being separated from their loved ones forever.

Everyone was praying silently.

In her outburst, Alice’s scream shattered their mourning and hopeful silence. Director Xin turned around and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Alice flashed a flattering smile. “Thank you for your concern, Director Xin. I’m fine.”

“That’s good.” Director Xin’s eyes gleamed with worry. “Who was the last one to see Emma last night?”

He must find Emma.

Emma was James’ girlfriend and the only girlfriend he acknowledged. Maybe Emma would still be Mrs. Shi in the future.

Now most of the investment in this movie came from James. If something happened to Emma, they would be doomed.

Moreover, after getting along with her for a period of time, he found that Emma was a modest and hardworking person who could endure hardships and triumph over challenges. She had a stout professional knowledge that backed her own unique opinions.

Director Xin had met many actresses, but he had never seen a person as talented as Emma.

Alice didn’t dare to make a sound.

After a long stretch of silence, a self-proclaimed witness said, “I saw Alice ask Emma to buy something last night, heading for Maple Road.”

His voice was low, but everyone heard him clearly.

“Don’t talk nonsense,” Alice retorted defensively. “Why would I ask her to buy something? She’s not my assistant.”

She was far from famous. How could she even afford an assistant?

She didn’t own an assistant, so she asked Emma to buy milk tea for her.

Alice swore that if she became popular because of movie, she would make Emma her assistant.

It didn’t matter that people praised and fawned over Emma’s beauty. So what if she was talented and valued by Director Xin? In the end, Emma had to serve her.

Director Xin had been working on the set for most of his life already, and he could grasp what kind of people his staff were from their words and deeds.

He knew Alice was lying.

“What did you ask her to buy last night?” He often wore a serious face accompanied by a strict tone. He never joked about anything. Everyone feared and respected him.

Director Xin believed more in the witness than this dishonest actress.

Everyone’s eyes narrowed on Alice, waiting for her answer.

A few insiders knew that Emma was James’ girlfriend. James was a newcomer in the entertainment industry without fans or fame, but he had a strong family background.

No one dared to provoke the novice actor, and they tried to get along well with his girlfriend.

Bearing the caustic stare of the crowd, Alice finally surrendered to the pressure and confessed the truth. “I wanted to drink milk tea last night, so I asked her to buy me a cup on Maple Road.”

“You asked her to buy you milk tea?” Director Xin scoffed. An actress, who was not even a good one, dared to put on airs against his promising intern.

At this moment, a makeup artist stepped up and said, “Alice doesn’t drink milk tea, does she? She said drinking milk tea would make her fat.”

“Besides, there are many milk tea shops nearby. Why did she ask Emma to go as far as Maple Road? That place is quite dark at night.”

“Alas…”

Some sighed, some were speechless, and some sneered.

Alice’s face turned pale. She lowered her head, unable to speak.

“You asked her to buy you milk tea at the middle of the night? And you asked her to buy it from Maple Road?” Director Xin’s face turned livid with anger.

He only participated in the selection of the main actors and actresses. He didn’t go to the rest of the selection.

He trusted his colleagues would also choose good actors and actresses, but why did they choose one as bad as this?
In the movie, Alice’s role was a character puffed with vanity. She was condescending, conceited, and prideful. She liked to order people to do her bidding, deeming herself as superior.

He had praised Alice for staying in character, but he didn’t expect that was also her true colors.

“Director Xin, I…I just said it casually and she went.” Alice was still arguing back. Her hands were trembling, and she tried to clasp them together in a shivering prayer.

Director Xin took off his hat and said with a ferocious look on his storm-beaten face, “If something happens to Emma, you’ll be in jail.”

“In jail?” Alice looked up in surprise and grinned nervously. “It’s not that serious, is it? I simply asked her to buy me a cup of milk tea. And she just happened to encounter an earthquake.”

Alice flaunted a delicate appearance and spoke in a soft voice. But what she said pissed off the people around her. Director Xin snorted, “Offending the Shi family will come to no good end. Just wait and see.”

“Shi family?” Alice was not completely ignorant of the world. The only Shi family that Director Xin mentioned must be one of the three most powerful families in Lexingport City.

She asked,

“What does it have to do with the Shi family in Lexingport City? Isn’t Emma from a working family?”

“You did a thorough investigation.” Director Xin looked at her scornfully, as if he had seen her future already ruined. Alice smiled awkwardly.

Of course, she had to conduct a thorough investigation on Emma. People whispered exaggerations of her beauty, gossiping that Director Xin was fond of this actress. More importantly, Alice observed that men on the film set would always drool over her beauty. They would race towards her to help in things she hadn’t asked for yet.

There was also a man she liked.

Alice disliked Emma for a long time.

She just asked Emma to run an errand, but she was unlucky that an earthquake jolted in the area.

“Come on, guys. Go to Maple Road and look for Emma. It should be all right now.” Director Xin felt his hair turn grey all of a sudden. “I just wish there would be no aftershocks. We have to find Emma as soon as possible. I hope she’s fine.”

Although the earthquake struck fast, the epicenter was not in the city, so the damage was not as severe. Several buildings collapsed and some people were injured. Overall, there were a few casualties.

Director Xin looked at the direction of Maple Road. A big crack had fissured the ground and the buildings along the road crooked and tilted.

He could only pray that they find Emma quickly. If James discovered any of this, things would get worse.

“Emma, Emma!” A voice echoed from afar, rushing steps growing louder with each second. James arrived in an innocent excitement to see the crew at the center of the square. He pulled one of them and asked, “Where’s Emma? Did you see Emma? Where is she?”

The person he grabbed was none other than Alice. She was inching backwards, wanting to reduce her sense of existence from the crowd.

“Emma?” Alice was startled. Her face went pale with nervousness when she heard the name. “Who are you?”
