The narrow alley was pitch-black under the starless night sky and only the looming wall of men was visible.

Adrian continued to slap Vivian. This time harder. He gnashed his teeth in anger and said, “You know better than anyone why your mother had a miscarriage. Why did you frame Mrs. Shi? How dare you do such a cruel thing? Now that Henry is back in the Ye family, you won’t be able to get the Ye Group anymore. Why aren’t you stopping you evil plots? Isn’t it enough that you have the privilege to enjoy a peaceful life? Henry is back! And my happiness is gone!”

Enduring the throbbing pain on her face, Vivian looked at Adrian and kept his words in her mind.

She noticed that Adrian was not sober, so she grabbed the opportunity and asked, “Did Nina asked Henry to come back just to take revenge on me?”

“Revenge?” Adrian dusted off his shirt with his hands as he was disgusted by her. “This is not called ‘revenge.’ You deserve it!”

Vivian clenched her fists as firm as she could. She knew that she couldn’t afford to have a head-on collision with Adrian or offend the Song family.

She did what she had to do and contained her rage inside her. “You’re too drunk to even make sense! If you have nothing else to accuse me of, I’m afraid we’re done here.”

“Fuck off!” Adrian was so infuriated, but he let Vivian go.

Vivian rushed to flee the scene despite her high-heels.

‘Nina, Adrian, and Henry.

I won’t let any of you go!’ she swore to herself.

She went straight to her room and scurried to deal with her inflamed cheeks. Suddenly, Julie pushed the door open.

“Vivian! What happened to you?” Julie was startled and rushed to check her daughter’s face.

Vivian was her prized daughter. Julie couldn’t allow anything terrible to happen to her.

“It’s alright, Mom. I’m fine.” Vivian removed Julie’s hand. “It’ll just hurt if you touch it.”

Julie was quick to withdraw her caress and asked anxiously, “Did someone slap you? Who did this? Tell me the name, I’ll make them pay for what they have done!”

“No, Mom!” Vivian tugged Julie and sighed. “It was Adrian who did this to me.”

“Adrian?” Julia was appalled when she heard the offender’s name. “But he is a very timid man! He barely caused any trouble. How could he do this to you?” Everyone thought of Adrian as a coward, but once he was agitated to the brim, he could be as fierce as a tyrant.

Vivian recalled the drunken words of Adrian and pondered about what he said. She deduced a rough guess in her mind and said, “Mom, do you think that maybe Adrian found out that Henry is back to fill the seat of the CEO of the Ye Group and marry Vera?”

“I don’t know, but why do you think so?” Julie pulled a stool and sat down to have an intimate discussion with her daughter.

Vivian covered her mother’s hand in her cold palms and said, “Just like Dad, Adrian thought that it was me who caused you your miscarriage. He also accused us of framing Nina. I think she urged Henry to come back to our family on purpose. She made it impossible for us to get what we want.”

As her words stumbled, she wiped the glissade of tears gently. “Adrian slapped me and scolded me. He interrogated our motive for setting up Nina. He also said his happiness is gone after Henry returned to our family. I bet he likes Vera, and when he knew that she is about to be engaged to Henry, he was gravely provoked. He could have gone straight to Nina and reprimand her, but he couldn’t do so because of Brother John, so he came to me to teach me a lesson and vent his wrath.

I think this is the truth. Otherwise, it would impossible for him to slap me!” She was sullen as she sank in her weeping. She looked down on her toes and heaved a complacent smile on her trembling lips.

But when she raised her head, she became aggrieved once more. “He was severely drunk earlier, so he must be telling the truth. Henry is back to take revenge on us!”

Vivian raised her tear-moistened face and saw Julie’s distorted face of wrath. She ought to clear her mother’s suspicion, so she took advantage of the moment. “I suspect that your miscarriage is a conspiracy, Mom. Henry wanted to come back to win over the family property, so he plotted a malicious scheme with Nina!”

“I know. I have the same thoughts.” Julie was rattled. “Henry had been living in Lexingport City for quite some time now. He must have been trying to find an opportunity to come back.”

Julie held Vivian’s hand tighter, and this made her wince in pain. But as long as Julie no longer thought she was behind her miscarriage, Vivian thought it was worth it.

“Really, Mom?” asked Vivian in feigned surprise.

Julie gazed at her bruised daughter and said, “Of course. I must be right on this. Henry had kept a watchful eye on me. He had certainly pulled Nina into his schemes to make my miscarriage happen. As soon as I had a miscarriage, he came back. I mean, look at him! He is doing an excellent job in the Ye Group already, so he must have prepared this for a long time.”

Julie was infuriated by her lack of attention in the past. She didn’t expect that her shamming husband had another illegitimate child.

If she had known the truth earlier, she would have snatched the chance to kill Henry when he was still an infant. Henry had grown up to become a wise and clever man. He had a lot of tricks in his sleeves, so it was not a walk in the park for Julie to pummel him down.

“Vivi, just remember that you must be obsequious to gain his favor, do you understand? Let me do the not-so-pleasant things from now on. Just give me some time to contemplate what our next move should be.” Julie tapped her daughter’s hand in assurance.

Vivian looked at Julie gratefully and said, “Mom, I have a good idea. If we remove the support of the Fu family in the equation, I’m sure that Henry’s self-esteem would take a heavy blow. Our first step is to prevent his engagement from happening!”

“You’re right, but how can we foil such an event?” asked Julie. She trusted her daughter very much.

She was running out of hope. Who else could she rely on if she didn’t believe in her dearest daughter?

“Adrien likes Vera,” said Vivian with a wicked grin. “We must find a way to make them have sex with each other. Adrian is a playboy anyway, he’ll take the bait.”

“That’s a clever idea, but don’t stress yourself. I’ll do it myself.” An inkling of malice went ablaze in Julie’s eyes. “Nina has blood on her hands too, and we can’t let her get away with my miscarriage. We can’t count on your father’s aid now. It’s just you and me from now on.”

“Of course, I won’t let her escape her crime,” Vivian said coldly. “I passed by Jessica earlier today, and I happen to stumble on something that would help us. I know what to do. Since she is the princess of C Island, she should go back to her own country.”

Julie gave her encouragement and said, “I trust you on that one. Do you still love Mr. Shi? He is indeed an ideal husband. But he loves Nina. You need to move on.”

Vivian’s face twitched and she said, “I’ve loved him for so many years, Mom. How can I afford to give up on him so easily? It doesn’t matter if he loves me back or not. I must have him even if I don’t receive the same amount of affection in return.”

“Then you have to start scribbling a genius plan. No man in this world doesn’t cheat on his wife. Just look at your father. He couldn’t stop his lust so he cheated on me while I was pregnant! Be smart and cunning, Vivian. You shouldn’t keep your virginity all the time. In special times, make the most out of it. I’m confident that Mr. Shi is not the perfect man. He will cheat on his wife sooner or later.”

Vivian blushed a rosy glow to her mother’s words. She was still a virgin. At Julie’s words, her heart raced to the excitement as she was itching to give it a try.
