- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 4 Episode 43 - (The tacit Understanding between brothers)
A Lamborghini pulled over at the Ye family estate’s driveway.
Adrian and Henry got out of the car and saw a rolled-out red carpet flanked by two line of servants.
“Welcome home, Mr. Ye,” they said in unison.
The welcome gesture was grand, and everyone’s smile was the same.
Adrian nudged Henry’s arm and teased, “Your father went through all this trouble to welcome you home.
Maybe he wants to make it up to you.” “Well, it’s unnecessary,” Henry answered.
Adrian shoved his hands in his trouser pockets and pushed Henry with his body. “Go on in, Mr. Ye.”
“Why don’t you come inside with me?” Henry really wanted to invite Adrian to meet his father, but Adrian refused decisively.
“No. I don’t want to get involved in the affairs of the Ye family. Besides, your father certainly doesn’t want to see me.”
Howard had said firmly in front of Adrian that he would never have an illegitimate child.
Adrian knew that Howard would be embarrassed if they saw each other again.
“I’ll go now. Call me when the dinner is almost over, and I’ll come pick you up.” Adrian patted Henry on the shoulder, slid back into the car, and drove away.
Henry waited for the car to leave his sight before turning around and walking in.
He was a few steps in when he heard a car pull up behind him. He stopped and turned to see who it was.
It was Noah.
He looked a little different today. He wore a black suit and a neat tie. His legs looked long and slender in his carefully pressed black slacks that perfectly fit his lower body. His shoes glinted in the faint light outside.
They looked at each other across a distance of about ten meters. Their faces were similar, but their temperaments were different.
Noah exuded an air of dignity and authority. His skin was not as fair as Henry’s because his job sometimes required him to battle the elements. His wheat-colored complexion was a reflection of his commitment to his calling as a police officer.
Although he was thin, he still embodied great strength by the way he carried himself.
On the other hand, Henry was Noah’s polar opposite. He was easygoing yet elegant, swift, and fierce.
He smiled at Noah and nodded, “Noah.”
Noah was a little surprised. He walked over with a smile and gently patted Henry on the shoulder. They entered the villa together.
“I have seen you several times. I didn’t expect that we are brothers,” Noah commented.
“I’ve known all along that you’re my brother. I just didn’t tell you,” Henry replied frankly. At this point, he knew that trying to deceive Noah was not a good idea.
It was better to be honest right off the bat.
He did not want to ignite a conflict with his brother.
Noah simply smiled and asked casually, “So you’ve decided to come back?” Henry was quick to perceive the hidden meaning in Noah’s words. Noah was wondering why Henry changed his mind.
Henry dipped his chin in understanding.
He said, “I have my own reasons, but it’s not yet convenient for me to reveal them. I hope you don’t mind.”
‘I just want to protect the one I care about the most,’ he thought.
“Not at all. It’s good that you’ve decided to come home.” After a short pause, Noah asked, “How old are you?”
“I’m 26 years old.” Henry glanced at Noah and immediately understood why he asked. He did not say anything more.
“I’m your elder brother then. I’m turning 27 this year.” A hint of bitterness flashed through Noah’s eyes.
He kept silent after that.
He did not know what to say next.
Even though he would not admit it, Noah was nursing a grudge against his father for having intimate relations with two women other than his mother.
Henry was 26 years old now, which meant that Howard had gotten Henry’s mother pregnant while his legal wife, Noah’s mother, was pregnant too.
Later, when his mother fell seriously ill, his father had an affair with Julie.
Not long after his mother passed away, his father allowed Julie and her daughter to live in the Ye family estate openly.

Noah felt sorrowful in his heart again. He felt sorry for his mother. His parents’ love story had disappeared without a trace as if it had never existed.

Noticing Noah’s sudden silence, Henry explained, “Just so you know, he forced my mother to be with him. I was conceived by accident, but my mother chose to raise me on her own. When she told me who I really was, she also told me to stay as far away as I could from the Ye family. She told me that she would find me another father when she was free.”
He was serious at first, but when he said the last sentence, he burst into laughter. “And that she really did. She found me a new father abroad. Two days ago, she showed me how good her husband was to her through a video chat.”
Noah also smiled. “I’ve heard from Nini that you’re an interesting person. It turns out that you’ve inherited some humor genes from your mother.”
“Did she really say that?” Henry was not surprised at all.
“She also said that you had a hard time working for John. She guessed that you might have done something wrong to him in your previous life, so you were willing to be tortured by him in this life.” Every time Noah mentioned Nina, he spoke gently and his eyes glinted with fondness.
“She really understands my feelings. Mr. Shi is like a fatuous king most of the time.” Henry felt relaxed. He finally did not have to keep those words in his heart.
Noah chuckled and said, “Do you mean that he spends most of his time having fun with Nini?”
“You have no idea.” Henry complained even more. “He doesn’t focus on his daily work. Mrs. Shi once told me that, at the rate he was going, she might end up supporting him and ordering him to do things for her.”
Hearing his words, Noah grinned from ear to ear. He shook his head slightly.
He thought, ‘That’s so typical of Nini.’
The two brothers walked side by side at a matched pace as they made their way inside their father’s villa.
They talked like they had never been strangers their entire lives, like they had been raised under the same roof together.
Standing on the second floor, Howard gazed upon his two sons walking side by side, talking and laughing. He breathed a sigh of relief.
He had been worried that Noah might not like Henry.
Now it seemed that his sons got along well with each other.
“Prepare the dinner.” Howard turned around and ordered the butler who bowed and went downstairs.
Noah and Henry sat in the living room now. A servant brought them two cups of tea.
Hearing footsteps approaching, they stood up at the same time.
Noah said, “Dad.”
Henry said, “Father.”
Howard did not blame Henry for his estrangement. He understood that he owed him a lot.
“Let’s go to the dining table and have dinner.” Howard looked at Henry with excitement. He knew that he had not accepted him yet, so he did not rush to hug him.
The three men sat down at the table while the servants served dinner.
The butler asked Howard whether he should ask Julie and Vivian to come and join them.
“No,” Howard replied sternly. He frowned, feeling a little impatient. Then, he remembered he had something to announce tonight, so he needed his two sons to be present. He called to the butler once again and said, “Wait. Get Vivian and ask her to come here. Julie’s not feeling well. Let her rest.”
When the last dish was served on the table, Vivian walked in gracefully and greeted the three men on the table.
“Good evening, Dad, Noah, Henry.”
“Have a seat.” Howard motioned for her to sit down.
Feeling her father’s indifference, Vivian felt uneasy. She guessed that her father had heard about the rumors going around. She was worried that he believed that she had something to do with her mother’s miscarriage.
She had to find a way to clear her father’s suspicions.
“You look so much like Dad, Henry. I wonder why I hadn’t noticed before. We have seen each other so many times,” Vivian commented. “Had I been more observant, I would’ve realized.”
“Really?” Henry smiled, but there was ice in his voice.
He thought, ‘If she had realized earlier, I would have suffered or even been killed.
She’s so cruel and merciless that she has murdered her own unborn sibling. If she could do that to her own flesh and blood, what more to a half-brother like me?’
