- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 4 Episode 35 - (The truth of julie's miscarriage)
Noah frowned and said, “Her husband hurt his leg at the construction site a week ago. He’s receiving the best treatment at Kanner Hospital.”
Nina and Noah looked at each other and felt that something was off.
Noah gave Tom a look, which the latter immediately understood. He said to Beth, “You need to come with us to the police station to make a statement.”
“What? Why? Am I under arrest?” Beth glanced up at Nina and then quickly lowered her head, looking all guilty. Every fiber of Beth’s being refused to go to the police station. “Do I have to go? You can ask whatever you want to know here, and I’ll gladly answer it.
I’m scared of that place,” Beth muttered.
“Beth, you didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t be afraid.” Tom meant to comfort Beth, but the result was the opposite.
The expression on Beth’s face twisted in a fit of panic.
“No, no, no. I don’t want to go. I didn’t kill or dismember anyone. I have nothing to do with any of it.”
Beth’s reaction confused everyone.
Noah said, “It’s just a statement. You’re not under arrest. We’re not accusing you of anything.”
“I don’t want to come to the station.” Beth started hyperventilating, her eyes wild with fear.
Noah narrowed his eyes and asked her, “How much money do you and your husband make every month?”
“Maybe seven thousand or eight thousand dollars,” Beth answered absentmindedly.
“What about the medical fees at Kanner Hospital?” Noah continued.
Beth seemed to have become lucid. She swallowed and replied, “We have already paid more than hundreds of thousands of dollars for the medical fees. The construction company has compensated my husband for his injury. We can’t afford them on our own.” She gritted her teeth.
If it were not for the lack of money, she would not have agreed to Vivian’s evil plan.
Now she was the one dealing with the consequences.
She did not expect that someone would leave a person’s fingers and leg in her shop. She called the police, but it was too late when she realized that Nina was one of them.
Beth glanced at Nina guiltily and looked away when she met her eyes.
After thinking for a moment, Nina spoke her mind. “Even if you have compensation from the construction company and some savings, it won’t be enough to pay for the medical fees. The Kanner Hospital is the best hospital in the city.”
Beth’s heart skipped a beat.
‘Is she finally figuring it out?’ she thought.
Nina noticed a flicker of muscle in Beth’s jaw. She faced her and said, “Kanner Hospital is a ridiculously expensive private hospital. It’s the best medical facility in the city, and only the filthy rich can get treated there.
I also noticed that your husband’s two colleagues own clothes from luxury brands. They’re plasterers, aren’t they? How can they afford such clothes?”
“I…”
Hearing Nina’s question, Beth became so nervous that she forgot that her husband had made a fortune a few days ago. She was thinking about the one million dollars that Vivian had given her.
She hesitated for a long time and did not reply.
Noah exchanged glances with Nina and said, “Your husband was injured the same week the luxury clothes were sent to your shop.
There must be a connection there. If you know something, I hope you’re not trying to hide it.” Noah’s voice was stern. He sounded like he was interrogating a criminal.
Beth wildly shook her head and said, “No, no. I’m not hiding anything.”
By the way that Beth was shaking and almost sobbing, everyone in the room surmised that she was guilty.

“Yes, yes.” Beth did not understand why Nina asked this out of the blue.
Seeing Beth nod, Nina’s face darkened. She asked her coldly, “If your husband’s leg was injured, then he should be in the general surgery department. Why were you in the neurology department?
‘Oh, my God! She knows!
What should I do?
What should I do?’ Beth panicked.
“Because… there was no free bed in the general surgery department, so the hospital transferred him to the neurology department.”
“You’re lying.” Nina’s eyes were cold and frightening. It was very likely that what happened to Julie was not an accident.
“How could you accuse me of lying? Is the hospital owned by your family?” Beth raised her voice to hide her guilt.
Mr. Black came over and said, “As a matter of fact, it is. I advise you to stop lying and cooperate with our investigation. The woman standing in front of you is the wife of Mr. Shi, the CEO of Time Group. He also owns the Kanner Hospital.”
As soon as Mr. Black finished speaking, thunder clapped outside, and lightning sliced through the sky. Everyone in the room winced at the sudden lightning.
People like Beth, who lived at the bottom of the social pyramid, believed in ghosts that served karmic justice. They believed that if they did something harmful, they would be punished by the heavens.
Finding out Nina’s real identity just now, Beth could not help feeling remorseful. Even if the heavens didn’t punish her, she and her family would pay once the truth came out one day.
Powerful people like Nina crushed people like Beth with their heel like ants.
Beth had thought that Nina was just from a family with enough money, not one as powerful as the Ye family, but she was wrong. She did not expect that Nina was the most powerful woman in Lexingport City.
Her last string had just snapped.
She collapsed on her knees in front of Nina and said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do it. Miss Ye forced me.
She gave me one million dollars, asked me to use soapy water to make you slip and frame you for what happened to that poor pregnant woman.
I had no choice. I needed the money to save my husband. I’m sorry. Please spare me. I’ll give the one million back. Please don’t send me to prison.”
Beth’s loud and incessant begging attracted the attention of curious policemen.
Nina stared at Beth with burning eyes. “You framed me to take an innocent life for only one million?”
With tears in her eyes, Beth looked up at her and sneered, “What do you rich people know? One million means a lot to people like us. If it weren’t for my husband, I wouldn’t have done such a thing. Besides, Miss Ye said that that pregnant woman would be completely safe. The miscarriage was an accident. Nobody wanted that to happen.”
“You…” Nina was so angry that she could feel her heartbeat in her temples. Vivian even paid one million to get rid of her own sibling.
She had taken one innocent life in the name of vengeance. The thought made Nina sick to her stomach.
Tom asked, “Who is this Miss Ye?”
Mr. Black asked, “What miscarriage?”
“Vivian Ye.” Nina spat Vivian’s name. “Her mother, Julie, had a miscarriage.” Mr. Black’s eyes widened. “Captain Ye’s stepsister?”
“Shut up!” Tom scolded. Mr. Black pursed his lips and turned to get down to business.
Nina looked at Noah and found that his expression was so calm that it was frightening.
“Noah…”
“Do whatever you want. Do let her go just because she’s my stepsister.” Noah’s heart sank into a dark void. He couldn’t understand why Vivian would have done such a horrible thing.
