- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 4 Episode 31 - (I can't redeem myself)
Noticing her trembling hands, John tightened his grip on them and took Nina to Brian’s office.
Nina couldn’t clear her mind. She believed that she killed the baby. She was like a puppet just letting John control her as they walked into Brian’s office.
Seeing Nina’s judgment of herself worsening, John’s heart ached. He silently wiped the blood off her hands. It was not until he had cleaned up the blood on Nina’s hands that John said, “It’s not your fault.”
Nina stared back into John’s eyes and could only feel guiltier.
“You always take my side. How can I believe you?” Nina couldn’t stop her voice from wavering.
John was at a loss. He didn’t know what to say to his little girl.
She knew that he loved her, so his vision would always be skewed.
What was he to do though? It actually wasn’t Nina’s fault.
“It’s my fault.” With one knee squatting in front of Nina, John held her hands and looked her in the eye. “I should have been on guard when I saw them.”
Recently, Vivian had kept a low profile and seldom appeared in public. John and Nina came to the hospital every Thursday but never bumped into her.
John rarely even took note of any woman besides Nina, so even if he did cross Vivian, he wouldn’t have even known.
Howard was once again in control of the Ye Group, leaving no room for Vivian to come back in. Her fate was sealed.
Was she really going to give up that easily though? Surely she’d force her way back into the spot she wanted. Right now her biggest threat was Noah and since he held a lot of power now, she couldn’t dare be rash about it.
Dealing with the unborn child would be easy though.
“I should have been on guard.” John looked at the guilt-shrouded Nina and failed in trying to hold back his remorse.
John knew Vivian would rope someone into her schemes but he didn’t expect his poor Nina to be that victim.
John’s somber and downtrodden tone seemed to snap Nina out of it for a second. Her eyes still streaming with tears, she said, “Did I do something wrong?”
“Julie won’t be able to give birth to this baby.” John said this before when he asked Henry whether he wanted to go back to Ye family.
Back then, he said that so that Henry would be willing to go back to Ye family, and now he was trying to ease Nina’s guilt.
“What?” She couldn’t understand why he had come to this conclusion.
Nina was the noble princess of C Island. She was like a canary in a cage, enjoying the best treatment, and maintaining the purest heart.
In the cage, she could not see the darkness of the outside world. She would only yearn for its beauty.
John did everything in his power to keep those evil things away from her. He didn’t want Nina to know that in rich families all types of atrocious things happened. Someone could try and kill their family members at any point and it was all for power and status.
“It’s dangerous for an elderly woman to get pregnant.” John had to make up some excuse that sounded reasonable enough.
“If I hadn’t hit her by accident, she wouldn’t have…” Nina lowered her head, still consumed by her shame.
“The older the baby got, the more danger the mother would be put in.” John hoped that Nina would stop beating herself up. He stood up, held her in his arms and gently rubbed her on the back.
“Honey, it’s not your fault.” John’s voice was gentle, but his eyes gradually became sinister.
Since Vivian dared use his wife, he would take what mattered to her the most. Nina hugged him tightly. “What should I do? I can’t make up for this.”
John sighed slightly and said, “Just go get your examination done first. I’ll go to see what’s going on.”
“Okay.” Nina nodded, but only tightened her arms around him.
It took a long time before John eventually coaxed Nina into going for the examination.
As for going to see what was going on, he just said it to comfort her.

John knew it was going to happen.
He just ended up calling Henry and they chatted for at least half an hour.
After Nina had her examination, John glanced at her and said on the phone, “You’d better think twice before making your decision.”
John hung up the phone and walked towards Nina. “How is it going?”
“The usual. Nothing happened.” Nina handed John the test result absent-mindedly.
John took the result and took a glance at it. He casually put it on Brian’s desk and gently pinched Nina’s face with a smile. “Nothing happened, so be happy.”
“But…” As soon as she raised her head and looked into John’s clear eyes, she lost all will to speak.
“Nothing.” Nina shook her head and only smiled back. It wasn’t sincere on any level but she couldn’t muster up anything more. “How’s everything going in the operating room?”
John’s mouth twitched but the silence was broken by two familiar voices coming through the door.
“Brian, are John and Nina here with you?”
“Ms. Shi?” Brian looked at Jessica in surprise. “Are you here for Mr. and Mrs. Shi?”
Jessica nodded. “I heard that Ni… John came to the hospital and I wanted to check if he is sick.”
“It’s not Mr. Shi. It’s just Mrs. Shi coming to have a check-up.” Brian froze, not knowing what to do. He couldn’t let her in his office.
Everyone knew that Jessica didn’t like Nina and since she was in the office, he wasn’t about to let all hell break loose. After all, his boss was John and not Jessica.
Brian had to put John’s best wishes before anyone else.
Brian added, “Mr. and Mrs. Shi are fine. Don’t worry, Ms. Shi.”
“Are they still here?” All Jessica wanted to do was make peace with Nina. Now that Jessica had lost her husband, the only protection that she could seek was from her family.
She just needed to put up with Nina for a little while to gain her family’s forgiveness.
Brian didn’t know any better though. He just thought that Jessica was here to make trouble so he had to bend the truth a little. “They have left.”
“They left already?” Jessica was disappointed and a little pissed off. Even though she made the conscious effort to come all the way here, it was in vain.
Jessica turned around and was about to leave, much to Brian’s relief. She swiftly turned back to him though, catching him completely off guard.
“Ms. Shi, what else can I do for you?” he asked.
“When I came here just now, I heard that a pregnant woman in the VIP ward upstairs had a miscarriage. I just wanted to know if it was Mrs. Ye?”
Jessica’s attention swiftly moved on from John and Nina.
Brian could finally stop holding his breath. He didn’t know that Nina had anything to do with the miscarriage and since Jessica was the one asking, he didn’t hesitate in sharing.
“Yes, it was Mrs. Ye who lost her child. It’s a shame. I heard that they were really looking forward to having this child,” Brian said, feeling sorry for their family.
It was not until then that Jessica came to her senses. “How did that happen though? Julie was fine all these days, wasn’t she? How did she lose the baby all of a sudden?”
“She accidentally bumped into someone and fell.” Brian had only just heard about it.
“Accident?” Jessica was so furious. “Was that person blind? Just wait and see. Howard will not let that person off that easily.”
