Emma went to the table in utter confusion.

Michelle personally took half a bowl of soup and carefully put it in front of James. “James, no, I mean, my future cousin-in-law, please remember to finish your soup.”

James stared with loathing at the soup in his bowl, which was as thick as mud. There was not even a trace of soup.

Every dish on the table was delicious, except for the one and only soup in front of him which emitted an invisible poisonous odor.

James’ expression was a little distorted agonizingly. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. All the cells in his body were refusing to take even a spoonful of the disgusting-looking soup.

“Mimi, what’s wrong with this bowl of soup?” With just one glance, Emma didn’t have the stomach to eat it at all.

James readily echoed, “Yes, Mimi, I’m your future cousin-in-law. Can’t you just get me a bowl of normal soup? Or at least give me a soup with a normal color.”

The color of the soup in front of him was so horrible that James could not find the words to describe it.

Hearing him say the word “cousin-in-law”, Emma’s face turned red in shyness. She reached out and pulled his arm. “What are you talking about? What do you mean with cousin-in-law?”

“Sooner or later, I will be,” James said with conviction as he put his hand on Emma’s shoulder and winked mischievously at Michelle.

‘We are all good friends here. Can you do me a favor and not embarrass me in front of my girlfriend?’ James eyed Michelle in silence.

In response, Michelle turned her head away.

‘I saw nothing,’ she thought to herself. ‘Huh?’ James was speechless.

When he saw this, he his eyes widened in disbelief. Since when had Mimi become such a smart person? She had even turned her head and pretended that she knew nothing.

“Okay, okay, I’ll just drink it.” Since his adorable girlfriend was there, James thought it would be better for him to act like a real man.

He picked up the bowl which was half-filled with the messy dark soup, and started to drink it up in one gulp.

But when the bowl touched his lips, he hesitated for a while. With just the smell of the strange odor coming from the soup, he couldn’t help himself but want to vomit.

Both Nina and Michelle stared at him expectantly, taking pleasure in his misfortune.

“Why don’t you drink it up in one gulp? Mimi’s cooking is very good, and the soup is not that bad either.” Emma was starting to get confused. “Don’t you like it?”

It occurred to James that one of the reasons why Emma refused to confess her love was that the social status and living environment of the both of them were totally different, and there must be some stark differences in their lives.

She was, for example, used to simple food, whereas James’ tastes tend to be more geared on delicacies. Clearly, he certainly disdained some home cooking and was obviously not used to eating them.

Alarmed, James immediately tried to explain himself. “No, I’m not the kind of rich guy who only eats delicacies.”

Surprise flashed through Emma’s eyes. He still remembered it.

“Just wait and see. I’m not afraid of drinking this bowl of soup.” James gritted his teeth decisively and poured the hateful soup into his mouth.

However, he just couldn’t stand it any longer as soon as the soup touched his mouth.

There was a burnt smell emanating in his mouth, and there were also many inexplicable flavors present which stimulated his taste buds.

He just had diarrhea several days ago when he ate Michelle’s food.

“What’s wrong?” Emma looked at him with concern in her caring eyes

James couldn’t speak a word. He could only shake his arm nonchalantly to show that there was nothing wrong with him. But he really took big steps as he rushed into the bathroom without further delay.
Emma became more and more worried and asked, “What’s wrong with him?”

“Emma, let’s all eat.” Michelle giggled with mischief and changed the topic as she put a delicious cola chicken wing in her bowl.

“He must have eaten something wrong this morning,” said Nina, all the while trying to cover for Michelle.

“But…” Emma started to disagree. Why didn’t he have any reaction up until now if he had eaten something bad this morning?

“Emma, have a cola chicken wing,” Nina urged her, picked up a chicken wing for Emma, and got one for herself as well. After taking a bite, Nina was overjoyed with delight.

“Mimi, the cola chicken wings are so delicious and super tasty. Sweet but not greasy, and very soft.”

“Well, then eat some more.” Michelle picked up another one for Nina to eat, and the two of them ate with relish and gusto.

On the other hand, Emma was eating absentmindedly. She worriedly looked at the direction of the bathroom from time to time, and heard the sound of flowing water. It lasted for more than ten minutes.

Holding the toilet for more than ten minutes, James emptied his stomach, and almost vomited up his gastric acid. His pale handsome face looked a little tired.

When he came out, the dishes on the table had all been swept away by Nina and Michelle, leaving nothing but only the leftovers.

“Aunt Nina, I’m so sorry.” James looked at Nina pitifully and whispered in a low voice, “Aunt Nina, can you let me have some dignity? My girlfriend is here.”

Taking a glance at Emma, Nina said in a light voice, “You don’t have to say it in such a hushed voice. Emma has heard it all.”

James was dumbfounded.

He wanted to cry.

He didn’t want to hang around with Nina or Michelle anymore.

Emma just smiled slightly. She used to think that James was arrogant and domineering, but later on, she found out that he had a low status in his family. He was often bullied mercilessly, but he wouldn’t really take it to heart.

Indeed, he had a good temper and was quite adorably cute.

“Let’s sit down. We haven’t eaten yet,” she said. Emma gently held his arm and made him sit down her, giving him the cola chicken wing from her own bowl. With doubt, James sat down, slowly ate the cola chicken wing, and said, “My girlfriend is so much better than you two. You two are… so great!”
