MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 4 Episode 11
“Okay.” Nina took back the rose.
Since John did not like it, it was useless to keep it.
She put the flower aside and said nothing.
John and Nina sometimes did not like to talk things over. It always made Henry anxious.
John would rather suffer in his dignity than set himself free in vulnerability.
Over his dead body would he admit to his own wife that he was jealous. Henry felt he had to ask for him. “Where did you get the rose, Mrs. Shi?”
John looked out the window. Although he was staring at the traffic outside, he was waiting for an answer.
“I bought it. Today’s for lovers, isn’t it? People would send their loved ones roses on this day, so I bought one.” Nina touched the rose again. She had not sent anyone roses yet. She wanted John to be the first.
There was nothing better to represent her love for her husband than a beautiful, fully-bloomed rose.
Henry finally took a deep breath and replied, “Did you buy it for Mr. Shi?”
“Yes,” Nina nodded. “But he doesn’t like it. What a waste.”
John still looked out the window. He raised his left hand to his lips, and the corner of his mouth rose slightly.
Hearing his wife, he felt a little guilty. “Give it to me.” John turned to look at her and reached out for the rose. His face was calm, but the joy in his eyes could not be concealed.
Nina looked at the expression on his face and guessed what Henry had been driving at with his questions.
It turned out that her man was angry just now because he thought the rose was sent by Noah to her.
Nina could not help feeling touched in her heart. She looked at John with a smile and asked, “Why? You don’t like roses.”
Judging from the way Nina spoke, John knew that she had seen through him. But he would never admit that he was jealous.
He looked at her seriously and waved his hand, beckoning her to give him the rose.
Nina really wanted to laugh, but she still pretended to know nothing. “Oh, I don’t know where I put it.”
She quietly tucked the flower between her leg and the car door, away from John’s view. She widened her innocent-looking eyes and said, “I just tried giving it to you, but you didn’t want it. Now you have to go find it yourself.”
John glanced sidelong at her with sharp eyes. The rose was still there just a moment ago. This little liar must have hidden it away.
He stretched out his hand, pulled her toward him, and leaned over to look at the space between her and the car door. The bright red rose lay there. Two of its petals had fallen out. They were snuggled up together.
Just like the two of them at this time. When John was about to reach out for the rose, Nina picked up the two fallen petals and said, “Oh, the rose’s petals have fallen. I’ll just throw them away. You know what, I’ll just toss out the rose.”
“No!” John protested, pulling his wife away from the flower. He wanted to take back all of the rose, the first one his wife got for him.
She could not throw it away, even the fallen petals.
He wanted to keep the rose.
It was May 20th, and this gift from her meant a lot to him.
“Why do you care so much? I thought you didn’t like it.” Nina picked up the rose and deliberately held it far away from John’s grasp.
John kept silent, his gaze darting back and forth between his wife’s cunning eyes and the rose.
Nina laughed in her heart and pretended to be pitiful. “Henry, where is the trash can? I’ll throw the flower away. John doesn’t like it.”
After saying that, she turned her head at John and stared him down. She wanted him to admit that he really liked roses. Helen had told her about it.
It was because of John’s order that North Yard’s gardens were full of all kinds of roses.
But more importantly, she wanted him to admit that he was acting up because he was jealous.
He had always kept his mouth shut when he was jealous or angry, and half the time, she had to guess how he was feeling.
Honestly, it was a waste of time trying to resolve a quarrel with the silent treatment.
Whatever he had in his heart, she had always had to force it out.
Nina sighed and rolled down her window. They were on the outskirts of the city. The streets were relatively empty today save for the trees lining the road.

She held the rose out the window and said deliberately, “Never mind. I’ll just throw it out the window. I don’t like keeping things my husband doesn’t like.”
“I like it,” John admitted. He grabbed her wrist and drew it back. “I like the rose you got for me, okay?”

“Then why didn’t you take it the first time?” Nina still did not give the rose to him. “If you tell me why right now, I will give it to you.”
John licked his lips nervously.
She was forcing him to admit that he was jealous.
He really could not win against her.
“I thought Noah gave it to you.” Even if John had just admitted that he was jealous, his face betrayed no emotion. Nina laughed heartily and gently slapped him on the shoulder. “I knew it! You were jealous!”
After a pause, John pursed his lips tightly and nodded, “Yes, I was. Can you give me the rose now?”
Nina stared at her husband’s outstretched, slender fingers and then looked up at his eyes.
She reached out her right hand and interlocked her fingers with his, still holding the rose in her left hand.
“Your hand is so beautiful,” she murmured.
John squeezed her hand, slid her closer to him, and snaked his left arm around her shoulders. Then, he reached out with his left hand for the rose, gently pressing her face on his shoulder.
“Give me the rose,” he whispered in her ear. His tone was no longer as cold and hard as before. “I love roses, and I love the one you give me even more. Hand it over to me. Please.”
His voice sounded so soft, but it was strong enough to send a jolt of electricity down Nina’s spine.
It was just like last night when he breathed in her ear.
Nina’s face burned bright red. She said, “What are you doing, honey? Can you be firm in your attitude?”
John knew that she could not stand it when he breathed into her ear like that and whispered sweet words.
He might be famous for his love for his own dignity, but he was also known to be completely shameless around his wife. He was never firm in attitude when it came to her.
“Can I have it? I really like it.” He lifted their intertwined fingers and kissed the back of Nina’s hand.
Among all the flowers, his favorite had always been roses.
Now that his wife got him one, he liked them even more.
“Please, honey.” John’s voice was so deep and magnetic that Nina snapped her legs shut. She felt her mouth go dry and her stomach house thousands of butterflies.
She could not hold it anymore and handed him the rose. “Here you go. Happy May 20th.”
“Happy May 20th, honey.” With a quick, fluid movement, John slid Nina onto his lap. He took the rose from her hand and kissed the corner of her mouth.
He carefully set the rose on the passenger seat and told Henry, “Watch it carefully.”
“Yes, sir.” Henry simply nodded.
John had just added another item to his job description, the flower guardian.
With her arms around John’s neck, Nina smiled. The breeze from outside blew a few strands of her jet-black hair to the tip of her nose and her lips.
“Here, let me get that.” John reached out and smoothed her hair. When his fingers touched the back of her ear, he turned over and placed her on her back in the back seat. He braced his hands on either side of her head and leaned in to kiss her.
The space in the back seat of the car was not very large. Nina could see all of John looming over her. Their bodies were not even pressed together, but she could already feel his steady heartbeat. Hers thundered in her ears.
“What are you doing?” Nina panicked. They could not possibly do it right now in such a tight space, not to mention with Henry in the driver’s seat.
Besides, she had her period today. There was no way that this was happening.
Raising her hands and pressing them against his chest, Nina looked John straight in the eye and said, “John, don’t act recklessly.”
John raised his eyebrows and smiled unscrupulously. He answered firmly, “No.”
Then, he leaned close enough to whisper in her ear, “You should’ve known by now, I can’t calm down around you.”
“You… Mmmph…” John’s lips crashed against hers, rendering her silent.
She struggled for a while but ultimately gave in. In between hard, passionate kisses, she felt him smile against her lips.
