- Season 3 Episode 79 - (Be responsible for her)
James felt uncomfortable because his whole body was wet. He thought that if he came back home, he would definitely be surrounded by his family and asked a lot of questions.
He decided to go to Haley’s instead.
Although James hated Harrison, it had nothing to do with Haley.
Like him, Haley was also an idle, rich guy. He had an apartment in the heart of the city.
Since Nina burned down their secret base, Haley’s apartment had become their hangout place.
If James and his friends had nothing else to do, they would come there to drink and play cards.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Hey, Haley! It’s me! Open up!” James did not bother to ring the doorbell and just banged on the door. It helped a little bit with venting his anger.
Creak!
Haley opened the door and was surprised to see James standing outside. “James? Why do you look like a drowned rat? Is it raining outside?”
“Cut the crap. Let me take a shower. I’ll sleep here tonight.” James threw his coat to him and went straight to the bathroom.
When he passed the living room, he saw bottles, snacks, and gaming controllers as well as all kinds of cards for playing games.
“Did you have a game night without me?” James stared at Haley. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“We couldn’t get through to you on the phone. If you don’t believe me, you can take out your phone right now and check. Sheila has called you dozens of times.” Haley raised his right hand, swearing that he was telling the truth.
It was not until then that James realized that he had muted his phone. He was afraid that someone would call and ruin the moment when he ran into Emma.
“Oh. Yeah, well, my phone died.” James walked toward the bathroom. “Can you clean this place up? I don’t want to spend the night in a messy place.” Haley tilted his head at James.
Since when did he like places to be clean?
In the past, when others wanted to clean up, he said he did not need to do it. Only in that way could he live a good life.
What happened to him?
Seeing that Haley did not move, James turned around and yelled, “Why are you still standing there? Clean up. I don’t want to see these annoying things when I come out of the shower.”
Shocked, Haley replied, “Okay. I will clean up right now.”
Haley threw James’ coat on the sofa and began cleaning the living room.
Bang!
James slamming the bathroom door shut startled Haley so much that he dropped the cola can he was holding.
“Why is that guy in such a bad mood tonight?” he muttered under his breath. Nobody answered his question, and he did not find asking James directly appealing either. He just concentrated on cleaning up.
After taking a shower, James went to bed.
Haley could only stare at him. He thought, ‘It’s only ten o’clock. The night life has just begun. Why is he turning in so early? What is wrong with him?’
Starting to get a little worried, Haley decided to knock on James’ door and talk to him. “Hey, James. Are you okay? Is there anything wrong? You can talk to me, you know.”
James was lying on the bed with his hands crossed behind his head. He stared at the ceiling in a daze. “What can you talk to me about? You’re single,” he answered.
Haley had not even touched a girl’s hand. He was the last person who could help him with his problem.
“Hey!” Haley yelled back, displeased.
“There’s nothing wrong with being single, okay? And also, you’re one to talk. Do you have a girlfriend right now?”
Then, there was silence.
Since James was hurling his usual snide comments at him, Haley thought that he was doing just fine. He turned around and went back to cleaning his apartment.
It took more than an hour for Haley to finish cleaning up. After throwing out the trash, he plopped on his sofa and sighed audibly.
“Finally done,” he murmured. He turned his head and saw a rectangular light shining through James’ coat pocket.
It was his phone.
‘Didn’t he say his phone was out of power? Why does it still light up?’ Haley took out the phone and unlocked it. There was a new WeChat message.
And it was from Emma.

Emma used to be his brother’s girlfriend. Haley recognized her at a glance from her profile picture.
He was sure that the Emma who texted James and the Emma who was his brother’s ex were one and the same.
Haley locked James’ phone and walked toward the bedroom. The door was left unlocked, so he went inside. He found James wide awake on the bed and staring at the ceiling. He threw his phone at him.
“Emma sent you a message. She said she would see you tomorrow.”
James sat up, took his phone, and then looked up at Haley.
Haley knew the password to his phone.
“Don’t look at me like that. I didn’t peek at your other news,” Haley explained immediately.
“I know.” James nodded and set the phone aside. A million confusing thoughts now ran through his mind.
Emma had refused him more than once, but hearing her tell him directly that she did not like him was a different story.
At this point, he was not sure anymore if he still wanted to hold on.
On the other hand, if he let go now, he might not have another shot ever.
‘It’s not easy to find someone I like. Should I just let her go?
But she doesn’t like me,’ he thought. “What’s wrong with you, man?” Noticing the complicated look in James’s eyes, Haley sat down on the edge of the bed.
“Does it have anything to do with Emma? I can see that you like her. I know she and my brother broke up some time ago. For the record, it’s all my brother’s fault.”
“I don’t want to hear about your bastard brother.” James wanted to beat the hell out of that jerk.
“Fine. I’m sorry.” Haley shut up.
After a while, James asked, “What happened in the ancient times when a man kissed a woman?”
“What?” Haley was confused again.
“Why do you ask that out of the blue?” James just patted him on the shoulder and said, “Just answer the question, Haley.”
“Well, he became responsible for her,” Haley answered. “In the ancient times, it was improper for a woman to be intimate with a man she wasn’t married to. If a man did something improper to a woman, he would marry her.”
“Marry her? Are you sure?” The frown on James’ face gradually relaxed.
“Yes. Why do you ask?” Haley felt that James was acting a little strange. James laughed boisterously at his question. He lied back on the bed, crossed his legs, and said, “Then I’ll marry her and take care of her for a lifetime.”
“What are you talking about, man? Did you do some improper things to a girl?” With a gossipy look on Haley’s face, he grabbed James’s arm. “Who is she? Tell me.”
“Yes, I have done some improper things to a girl. I have to be responsible for her now.” James shamelessly admitted it. In the past, he did not think that he did some improper things to her. It was just because he liked her, and he liked her even more now.
With a meaningful smile on his face, Haley immediately understood and asked, “Is it Emma?”
“Oh, you’re smart this time.” James laughed happily.
Now that Emma wanted to be a person having some self-control, she would understand that he should marry her after he kissed her.
He must marry her and take care of her for the rest of her life.
After all, it was an unwritten law. He had kissed Emma, so he must be held accountable.
“Don’t you think you’re going about this way too fast?” Haley could not believe it.
With a darkened face,
James replied, “Not at all!
Get out. I’m going to sleep.”
He kicked him out of the bedroom.
“Way to thank your buddy for letting you sleep over.” Haley was indignant.
“Oh, you know I’ll always be thankful for you, buddy. I just have to go to sleep now. I have to be fresh and ready for my date with Emma tomorrow. She’s coming with me to a dinner party.” James pushed Haley out and closed the door.
Haley frowned and asked, “A dinner party? Is it the one being thrown by the Song family?
My brother and Adela are also going to that party!”
