MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 76
Michelle nodded, “Yes, you can’t even kiss her. Those are my cousin’s standards for finding a boyfriend. Obviously, you don’t meet them.”
Suddenly, James felt a little guilty. “How do you know about that?”
“About what?” Michelle did not understand.
“About… that…”
Michelle’s big, innocent eyes still showed no understanding.
Frustrated, James said perfunctorily, “Forget it.”
Leon reminded James, “Let’s go.”
James gunned the engine and drove toward L University. Sitting in the back seat, Michelle leaned to her window and looked at the streets of Lexingport City.
She missed her home and her parents. But her parents’ research was not over, and she did not know when they would be back.
“Alas…” Michelle sighed.
Leon glanced at her without saying anything. With his hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, James carefully paid attention to Michelle’s reactions through his peripheral vision.
Hearing her sigh, James said, “Mimi, I’m a good person. It’s just that…I don’t have self-control. I meet the first two requirements.”
Michelle’s thoughts were about drift in the wind when James’ voice pulled them back. She turned her head to him.
“No, you don’t,” she said.
“What are you talking about?” James was starting to feel his frustration boil over. “I’m a student of L University. I’m literate, and I’m a gentleman. I don’t beat or curse people.”
Michelle stuck out her tongue at him and said, “You are so shameless. I just heard you say ‘Damn it’ more than once.”
James had no rebuttal to that.
It was because it was true.
Since James met Emma, he had always cursed.
He had no choice!
Emma was stubborn. Although she was quiet, she was very strong willed. It was difficult to get her attention. In order to get a second look from her, James had to be over the top.
If he did not act more overbearingly, he might not be able to get a chance to be with Emma for the rest of his life.
“Your cousin will get sick if she eats the same food all the time. I’m like a dish with a different taste. Maybe she’ll like me.” James thought that there was no problem with his logic.
After all, it was how John and Nina got along.
“One day, Emma will marry me. I’m sure of it.” James stepped on the gas as if he was already on his way to get Emma to be with him.
His tone was much lighter than before but full of determination.
“Well, I guess it’s good that you’re getting started because you have a long way to go.” Michelle looked at James with calm yet relentless eyes.
She was not interested in his love life. All she wanted was to sign up for the LPL professional tournament.
And she also wanted to continue to cook novel dishes, though they tasted really bad.
Thinking of this, Michelle’s eyes lit up again. Since her master was not here, she must find another person who could help her improve her food.
Michelle’s eyes fell on Leon first and then on James. She thought about it again and again.
“Can you do me a favor, Mimi?” James spoke up just in time. “Can you tell me where Emma usually goes besides school and the filming set? If I have nothing else to do, I will go for a walk there. Maybe I will bump into her.”
Michelle asked back, “Can you do me a favor? I have studied some special food recently, and I want to find a personal taster to evaluate me so that I can improve my cooking.”
“I’d be happy to be your taster,” James agreed immediately. “Aunt Nina says that the dishes you cook are delectable.”
“Really?” Michelle smiled and felt guilty. Those dishes she made were really awful.
She turned to face James and said, “All right. If you agree to be my taster for a whole month, I’ll tell you.”

“I agree. Just tell me where Emma goes,” James answered way too quickly.

Michelle smiled wider. She paused for a moment and tapped her fingers on her thighs. Then, she said, “We need to have a recorded agreement.”
She took out her phone, tapped on the video recorder, and began filming.
“James Shi, do you swear to be my taster for a whole month if I tell you a place my cousin Emma frequents besides school and the filming set?”
“Yes, I swear.” Without hesitation, James answered and made an “okay” gesture.
“Okay. We have a deal.” Michelle giggled and ended the video.
Leon watched the scene in front of him with a smile.
Michelle was quite smart.
“What are you smiling about, Leon?” Michelle turned to look at Leon, her eyes blinking.
Leon simply shook his head and said, “Nothing. I just think you’re clever.”
“Of course I am.” Michelle waved her phone at Leon and grinned, showing off rows of white, perfect teeth.
“Yes, you are.” Leon reached out and patted her head. Her soft, short hair felt like rabbit’s fur against his palm.
Michelle beamed even more, and Leon found himself unwilling to withdraw his hand.
“So where’s the place, Mimi? Tell me.” James could not wait for her to answer.
“Wait a minute. Let me check today’s date.” Michelle picked up her phone and looked at the date. Then, she said in a surprised tone, “It’s your lucky day, James.
Today’s my cousin’s anniversary. She fell in love with Harrison two years ago.” James pressed his lips together into a thin line.
He replied begrudgingly, “Damn it, Mimi. How is that lucky? Are you kidding me? She already broke up with that jerk. It’s not their anniversary anymore!”
“That’s right,” Michelle nodded. “My cousin and her ex-boyfriend may have been broken up for a month, but she still hasn’t moved on. She will go to Elena Lake at seven o’clock tonight to mope and then take the subway back to school at nine o’clock.”
“Elena Lake? I see. Where else?” James asked.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, she’ll only be at Elena Lake tonight because of the anniversary. Where does she go on regular days?” James drove carefully and showed off his driving skills from time to time. He looked relaxed.
“What? But we only agreed to one place.” Afraid that James would play tricks, Michelle replayed the video she just filmed.
James finally understood and grumbled, “What the hell, Mimi? That’s not fair. I agreed to be your taster for a whole month. Damn, I always fall for your fraudulent schemes. My uncle John doesn’t even dare to do business like that.”
“No, I didn’t trap you into a fraudulent scheme. It’s not my fault you don’t understand the commercial exchange principle.” Michelle smiled and added, emphasizing each word, “Trade one for another.”
Leon chuckled again. She was really good at wielding words.
She was indeed smart.
James had just run out of counterarguments. He wrinkled his nose and knitted his brows.
“You fooled me for a month of helping you?” James pursed his lips. “I guess it doesn’t matter. You cook delicious food, and I get to eat for free. Who am I to complain?”
Michelle smiled and said nothing.
After thinking for a while, James bargained, “How about I help you for a few more months in exchange for a few more places Emma goes to? I won’t get fat even if I eat too much, and you don’t have to worry about me getting sick and tired of eating your tasty food. Just tell me where to go so that I can run into Emma accidentally on purpose.”
It was true that James did not gain weight by eating, but Michelle was not so sure about him not getting eventually sick and tired of her food.
After thinking for a while, Michelle shook her head and said, “No. Elena Lake is all you’ve got. You will definitely see my cousin there tonight. Just make it count.”
“Fine. But Elena Lake is so big. Where’s she going to be exactly?” James asked. “Tell me where she’ll be exactly so that I can find her easily.”
“No,” Michelle shook her head again. “You’ve found her in Lexingport City, which is way bigger than Elena Lake. You’ll be fine. You’ll find her. If you don’t, then maybe you’re not destined to see her tonight.”
James patted the steering wheel and said, “Damn it.”
He actually felt that Michelle’s logic was bulletproof.
