- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 3 Episode 48 - (Let's use the study Tonight)
The determination in James’ eyes was not lost on both Nina and John. They took this as a sign to take him seriously.
The prodigal son who returns is unmatched—more precious than gold. Likewise, the lazy who works hard progresses more than anyone else.
From then, James would fill his days by either filming for the movie or sending out gifts to prominent directors in the industry. Every time he came back, he would share his day with Chester.
Chester would then listen patiently and occasionally give him some advice as if he was a teacher.
John had been discharged from the hospital earlier than planned. He went back to North Yard so he could recover.
During the day, Nina would take Chester to class. The beautiful pair looked stunning as they took Nine for a walk around the campus.
They attracted quite a bit of attention—some were delighted by the dog while some wanted to play with Chester.
Naturally, Chester sparingly showed any emotions. He barely smiled or said a word. As a result, most people tended to stay away from him.
On days where there were no classes, Nina would stay in North Yard to take care of John. Since Henry was in charge of the company’s affairs, he came every day to report about work.
For a few days, they settled into this routine. When Brian visited North Yard for a checkup, he gladly informed them, “Mr. Shi, it seems like you’re fine now.”
John had recovered faster than expected.
Sitting on the sofa in the living room, he raised his arm to check the time—it was six in the evening.
Since it was Wednesday, Nina had Jason’s elective course in the afternoon which ended at 5:50.
It took Nina about an hour and a half to get to North Yard from L University.
His wife was on her way home.
After holding out for more than half a month, he was finally going to be able to be intimate with his wife again tonight.
Meanwhile, Nina had no idea that John had already recovered what more what he was planning to do with her that night.
There was no escaping John that night. Around half past seven, the sound of the car engine whirring came from outside North Yard coupled with Nine’s excited barking.
Whenever John heard Nine barking, he knew that this signaled Nina’s arrival.
“Helen, they’re back.” John kept his eyes glued at the gate, eager to see Nina.
He thoroughly missed Nina.
James would often call John nuts over Nina but John merely ignored him.
It was true that John loved his wife dearly. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his wife.
“All right, I’m going to set the table now and bring out the dinner.” Helen smiled as she headed into the kitchen.
With the presence of a child in North Yard, the atmosphere was much more lively and harmonious.
John and Nina barely fought nowadays. Instead, they were affectionate and sweet with each other.
From outside the door, Nina and Chester’s laughter could be heard. The change in their behavior was quite noticeable—they were both much more outgoing now.
Needless to say, John was very happy. He couldn’t imagine how much happier they would be when they had their own child in the future.
“Helen, don’t tell Nina that I’ve already recovered.” He intended to enjoy Nina’s special and care attention for a bit longer.
Helen paused and said, “Well, won’t Mrs. Shi be delighted if she finds out you’ve gotten better?”
A sly smile tugged at the corners of his mouth at the appearance of Nina. He lazily leaned back against the sofa. “I’ll tell her myself tonight.”
He would tell her with his body and his strength.
Helen grinned. “I bet she’ll be happier to hear the news from you.”
“Yup.” The smile on John’s face deepened as Nina approached him. “Not only will she laugh but she’ll also cry.”
“Mrs. Shi has been so worried about you. She’ll cry tears of joy once she finds out you’ve recovered.” This was how Helen understood it.
However, that wasn’t what John meant. The true underlying meaning of his words was far more titillating.
When Nina came in, she found John sitting on the sofa, waiting for her as she had expected.
“I’m back.” Nina briskly approached John and greeted him with a kiss on the lips.

John would flash her a toothy grin and pinch her cheeks. She would then help him get to the table.
To celebrate John’s early recovery, Helen cooked a lot for dinner that night—she added three more special dishes to their menu.
About twenty minutes later, Chester stood up and announced, “Uncle John, Aunt Nina, I’m done.”
“All right. I’ll ask Richard to take you out for a walk. You don’t need to go to the study tonight to read. You can go to bed early instead,” John said. He was practically asking Chester to leave but in a caring way.
Chester could tell that something was off but he didn’t think too much of it. As he was told, he wouldn’t go to the study that night to read.
As they strolled outside, he suddenly asked Richard, “Why did Uncle John ask me to not use the study tonight?”
Richard glanced at the 2nd floor of the main building of North Yard. The master bedroom was softly lit by an orange light.
“Mr. and Mrs. Shi must have something important to do,” Richard responded vaguely.
Young as Chester was, he didn’t know about such things yet. Despite his curiosity, he said, “Okay, I won’t disturb them.”
Richard said plainly, “They might disturb you.”
“Is Uncle John going to work in the study tonight?” Chester tilted his head. “But Uncle John works in the study during the day and spends his evening with Aunt Nina.”
Richard was at a loss, not knowing how to explain these things to a child. “I don’t know either. Mr. Shi still might use the study tonight.”
“Okay, okay. Got it.” Chester nodded, thinking to himself how busy John must be that he had to work at night too.
As it turned out, what Richard had said came true.
In the master bedroom on the 2nd floor
Holding a new bathrobe in her hands, Nina held John’s hand as they walked into the bathroom.
Since his hips were injured, he either had to stand straight or sit up straight. He couldn’t bend down so Nina had to closely watch over him and take care of him these past few days.
This included helping him take a shower.
“Why did you ask Chester to not use the study tonight? Are you planning to use the study?” Nina recalled that John’s office in North Yard was his study.
“No.” John only made up that excuse because Chester was still too young to hear the actual reason.
Nina paused and looked up, confusion written all over her face. “Then why won’t you let him read in the study before he goes to sleep? I thought you were going to use the study.”
Nina’s eyes were beautiful to say the least. They were like beautiful gems. Just one look from her was enough to intoxicate people.
It didn’t help that John had been yearning for her for a while now.
He lightly grazed her eyes with his fingers, feeling her eyelashes flutter.
As his heart lurched, he traced her face with his fingers, making his way to her lips.
“We’re using the study tonight.”
“What?” For a while, Nina remained expressionless as John took her outside.
They walked into the study.
John closed the door behind them. He gestured towards the wall. “Honey, could you help me look for a book?”
“Sure.” Nina assumed that he intended to read so she did as she was asked.
The study was bright and spacious. Its bookshelf was affixed to the wall.

Nina turned her head and asked, “Which one?”
“Let me have a look.” John walked over, lowered his head as he gently wrapped his arms around her waist.
“I think I want this book,” he said, his voice hoarse, aroused by Nina’s closeness and warmth.
Slightly startled, Nina seemed to realize something. “Have you recovered already?”
“Yes,” he said, his tone low and alluring.
He had no problems in seducing people—he was practically an expert in this.
Nina’s eyes flickered, mildly confused. He took the opportunity to kiss her and relish her rosy red lips.
