- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 3 Episode 43 - (This is my family matter)
“I know a little about it. Why did you fall down from the third floor?” John had concealed what happened very well.
Jessica only knew that he had fallen off a building, but did not know what had happened exactly.
Sam probably knew, but he did not tell Jessica no matter how many times she asked.
Jessica had no choice but to come to the hospital and ask her brother herself. She thought that it was definitely not because of his carelessness.
Someone must have plotted it.
Her brother was a man of noble status and possibly the most powerful man in Lexingport City. Who would not want to plot against him?
“Tell me the truth, John. What happened?” Jessica sat on the edge of her brother’s bed and spoke in a serious tone.
John frowned slightly.
Obviously, he was not happy with her questioning.
Jason guessed that it must have had something to do with Nina. His wife had a prejudice against Nina, and she had fallen out with her father and her eldest brother and sister-in-law because of it. It also angered John.
Jason could not let his wife repeat the same mistake and provoke her brother, lest they would be alienated.
“Honey, John is still recovering. You should care more about his current condition.” Jason had a refined, scholarly temperament, and his words were always appropriate and gentle.
He looked at John and said with concern, “You look good, John. I’m sure you’ll be on your feet in no time.”
It was his desperate attempt to change the subject.
“Thank you.” John cast a grateful glance at Jason. They had grown up together, so Jason knew him better than his sister.
Jessica had always tried to get to the bottom of the matter, especially when it concerned her favorite brother.
“But you still ended up in a hospital. I want to know how that happened. I asked Brian, and he said that your hips were badly injured. Just tell me what happened.”
Facing his sister’s relentless expression, John calmly answered, “Nothing. They’d patched me up. I’m fine now. I just need to recuperate.”
What they were talking about could be heard clearly in the leisure area.
When Nina saw Jessica come in, she knew that she would ask about their fall.
But Nina did not intend to hide anything.
So she stood up from the sofa.
Angela grabbed her hand and shook her head, telling her not to confront Jessica.
“It’s okay. I just want to tell her what she wants to know.” Nina had never thought about going head to head with Jessica. After all, John was her favorite brother.
Nina was willing to take a step back to ease the tense relationship between them.
Nina carefully approached John’s bedside, bowed her head to Jessica, and said apologetically, “I’m sorry. It was my fault. John was injured because he wanted to save me.”
It was the first time that Nina had lowered her head to anyone.
She was the little princess of C Island. She was noble and proud. She never lowered her head to others or did anything wrong.
She had lived her life so carefully that in order to avoid making mistakes, she chose not to do anything risky at all.
So in other people’s eyes, she was cold and guarded, even a little arrogant.
Hearing Nina personally take responsibility, John felt his heart melt. A satisfied smile slowly spread across his face.
“You again?” Jessica looked Nina in the eye, showing no attempt to even acknowledge her apology.
“Jessica, this is my family matter.” Turning his head to his sister, John stretched out his hand and pulled Nina to his side, letting her sit beside him.
He did not want to deal with Jessica’s questions anymore, so he said seriously, “You should go. I need to rest.”
Jason dipped his chin and put his hand on the small of Jessica’s back. “Honey, let’s go. We’ll visit some other time. Your brother needs his rest.”

“But we just got here,” Jessica complained. She shook off her husband’s hand and glared at Nina. She was beginning to lose her temper. But instead of being impulsive like last time, Jessica took a deep breath and tried to calm down.

It would be stupid to lecture Nina in front of her brother and subject their already fragile relationship to even more tension.
With much difficulty, Jessica swallowed her anger and asked in a calculated tone, “What happened? Why did my brother fall off a building to save you?”
Jessica did not seem to be angry. She just wanted to find out the truth.
Jason breathed a sigh of relief.
“I said that’s my family matter. Give it a rest, Jessica.” John held Nina’s hand and did not let go.
He was aware how powerful his sister was.
Jessica’s face turned bright red with anger. “I’m your sister, John! We’re family! I have the right to know how and why you got hurt!” she bellowed.
“Jessica, have you forgotten the unwritten rule of the Shi family?” a steady female voice interjected. Angela was worried about Nina, so when Nina went to talk to Jessica, she followed her and listened to their conversation.
Jessica was a little afraid of Angela. After all, Angela was the daughter of the Xu family in B City. No one in the Shi family dared to disrespect her.
It was not until then that Jessica noticed Angela’s presence. She narrowed her eyes slightly.
She and Angela got along well with each other because they kept their noses out of each other’s business.
Since Nina entered the picture, Angela had actively antagonized Jessica because of her. It pissed Jessica off.
Although her heart boiled with fury, Jessica did her best not to vent.
“And what might that be?”
Angela folded her arms across her chest and replied in an elegant and calm voice, “Dad said that although we are all family, we need to prioritize our own families. After each of us has our own family, the Shi family assumes second place in our lives.
Yes, you’re John’s sister, but he’s already married. What goes on in his family is no longer any of your concern. You can’t interfere in their affairs.”
Angela’s words were reasonable, and Jessica had no way to refute her. Jessica could only swallow the bitter lump in her throat and blink away the unwillingness in her eyes.
Vivian had told Jessica that she could not sacrifice the harmony of her family because of Nina. Otherwise, Nina would win.
‘Don’t be fooled easily,’ Jessica thought.
Taking another deep breath and forcing a smile, Jessica said, “I’m just concerned about my brother. Nina was actually the reason he got hurt. That doesn’t sit well with me. A wife should never put her husband in harm’s way.”
Angela did not have a good impression of Jessica. Since Jessica splashed wine on her, all she had were complaints about her.
Nina had helped Angela and had a good relationship with her son, so Angela naturally took Nina’s side.
“And a husband should do anything in his power to defend and protect his wife from danger. Didn’t Jason stick his neck out for you? And when he got hurt trying to protect you, did any of his family blame you for it?”
Jessica was rendered speechless. Jason held his trembling wife in his arms and smiled gently. “I didn’t care if I got hurt as long as I kept my wife safe.”
“John did the same thing for Nina,” Angela declared. Looking at Jason, she almost felt a little sorry for him. He was a good man who came from money and blessed with a pleasing personality, but he had always lived in Jessica’s shadow and always had to clean up after her and calm her personal storms.
Jessica’s lips trembled. She had never felt so wronged like this in front of her family her entire life.
“My husband should be nice to me. It’s his duty to get hurt for me if the need arises. As for the Fu family, they won’t dare blame me. I’m a daughter of the Shi family. They can’t afford to offend me.”

What Jessica said made Jason have mixed feelings. He loosened his hand on her shoulder and looked at her with a sad expression.
There seemed to be something in his heart that was slowly unfolding.
Maybe that was the truth.
Jason could not help wondering if he had just chosen to ignore it this entire time.
‘No, I don’t think she means that.’ Jason shook off all the ridiculous thoughts in his mind, put his arm around his wife’s shoulder again, and said softly, “Since John needs to get some rest, we’ll go now. We’ll come visit him another day.”
“Why? Do you think I’m wrong?” Jessica shook off Jason’s arm and raised her head to question him.
