- Season 3 Episode 41 - (They should have a child)
Nina’s thoughts were interrupted when she felt a sudden jolt of pain on her wrist. Instead of scolding John, she softly murmured, “Honey.”
Ever since Nina called John by that endearment at the Blue Mountain, he had always asked her to call him that. Most of the time, Nina felt uncomfortable and was reluctant to say the word.
She wasn’t used to calling him honey yet.
The only time that she would call him by that endearment was when they were alone. She would never say it when there was someone else near them.
At this moment, only John and Nina were inside the ward. Nina called out to John using the endearment again, her eyes blinking in pain.
John was quite shocked when he came back to his senses and saw that the person in front of him was Nina. At the same, he felt a little guilty.
Quickly, he pulled Nina closer to him and wrapped his arms around her. He loosened his grip on her wrist and just held her gently.
Sniffing, he smelled Nina’s familiar fragrance. He felt calm with her in his arms. However, he couldn’t shake the guilty feeling he had.
‘What did I do just now?
How could I hurt her so carelessly?’
As he held her tighter, he whispered in her ear, “I’m so sorry.”
He dreamed of what had happened on his tenth birthday.
A gangster managed to sneak into the Shi family’s home. John was held hostage on that day. They pressed his head into the pool and kept poking his head so he would stay down.
He almost drowned.
He was just a kid then and wasn’t able to counter the strength of an adult. At that time, he thought that he was going to die.
In the last moment, he struggled to fight back.
As he struggled to get away from him, he found a knife that they used earlier to cut the cake. He raised his head from the water with all his strength, grabbed the blade, and stabbed the gangster to death.
The blood gushed out of the gangster and stained his clothes. After he realized what he had done, his hand trembled, and his grip on the knife loosened. The blade dropped to the ground with a small thud.
Ever since that incident, he had always been scared of the water.
Whenever it rained heavily, John would always have nightmares.
If anyone approached him while he was having a nightmare, his first instinct was to end that person’s life.
He was fully aware that the person sleeping next to him was Nina, so he only grabbed her wrist tightly. However, his eyes still looked alert, even a little bit deadly.
“Honey, I’m sorry,” John whispered in Nina’s ear in a low and shaky tone.
A gentle kiss was planted on her hair. Nina didn’t blame John. Smiling, she poked her head out of his arms and rubbed her head against his chin like a cat. She kissed the corner of his mouth and said, “Since you have already apologized, I forgive you.”
John shifted in his bed, reached out his hand, and took Nina’s right hand. He noticed that her wrist was red.
Feeling distressed that he had hurt Nina, he sighed heavily.
“It’s okay. I’ll be alright. Don’t worry.”
Taking back her hand, Nina placed her head in John’s chest, pulled the blanket, and covered themselves with it.
Contented, she closed her eyes and whispered, “Let’s go back to sleep. Don’t be scared. I’ll be with you.”
With gentle eyes, John looked at Nina affectionately and smiled.
“Don’t you have anything to ask me?” John asked.
“No.” Nina shook her head.
She knew that John would tell her what had happened when he wanted to do so.
Besides, he just had a nightmare. He would have to relive the painful experience if she asked anything about that terrible dream.
She didn’t want to force him to talk about the nightmare.
John knew that Nina was a sensible and caring person. He didn’t know whether it was good or bad.
In fact, he preferred her to be willful.

The next day, the rain finally ceased pouring.
A gust of wind blew into the ward through the open window. Nina woke up with a shiver.
“Good morning!” Nina said with sleepy eyes. Then, she turned around and went back to sleep with her arms around John.
There was a garden in Kanner Hospital, full of different kinds of beautiful flowers. After the rain, the flowers bloomed and filled the garden with color.
John inhaled slowly as if savoring the fresh air that entered the room. To be honest, he couldn’t tell the difference between the smell of the flowers outside and Nina’s scent. They were both intoxicating.
He looked at Nina, lost in thought.
Richard, who was standing by the window, quietly left the ward.
As soon as he went out, he bumped into Nelson, who was with his wife and son. He greeted them politely. Then, he informed them that John and Nina were still asleep.
Chester held his parents’ hands and said, “I told you it was too early. Uncle John and Aunt Nina are still sleeping.”
“We had no choice. Your father and I have a flight at nine o’clock in the morning, so we had to come here early,” said Chester’s mother, Sarah Qin. She was born into a middle-class family, but she had the poise and elegance of an upper-class woman. She was already over thirty years old, but she still looked like a young lady from a well-educated family.
She bent down, straightened her son’s collar, and patted his head. “Your father and I will come back in a month. Until then, you will be staying with your aunt and uncle. Behave yourself, okay? Don’t make your aunt angry, or your uncle will get furious too. If that happens, he might beat you. Do you understand?”
Sandra Qin stressed each word to make sure he would understand.
Chester was only ten years old. In his parents’ eyes, he was still just a child.
However, Chester didn’t think he was a child. He nodded his head and replied, “Mom, don’t worry. I’m not a child anymore. I won’t cause any trouble to Uncle John or Aunt Nina.”
Of course, Nelson believed Chester. Nelson playfully ruffled his son’s hair.
“Let Dad hold you. Come on, let’s wait outside.” Nelson scooped his son up, and the three of them waited at the door of the ward.
Richard didn’t say anything.
After a while, John’s low and husky voice came from the ward. “Nelson, Sandra.” “Uncle John is awake!” Chester exclaimed with excitement. The three of them entered the ward.
When they came in, John was still lying in the bed. Nina, however, was already standing up by the side of the bed. Her face was red, and her lips were slightly swollen.
It was clear that Nina had just been kissed by John.
With just a glance, Nelson deduced what had just happened between the two. He looked at John with a smirk and joked, “It seems that we came at a bad time.”
Sandra Qin lowered her head and let out an elegant chuckle.
John and Nelson exchanged knowing looks, which made Nina’s cheeks turn redder. She awkwardly cleared her throat and invited Nelson and Sandra Qin to sit on the sofa.
“We just came to see if you’re okay. We didn’t know you were in the hospital until yesterday,” Sandra Qin explained and smiled gently at the couple.
“I heard that you fell off a building and hurt your waist.” Nelson put down his son and walked up to John. Concern was written on his face. “Is your waist still okay after you two slept together?” John was speechless.
He thought that his family just liked making fun with him instead of caring about him.
“Yeah, I’m fine. There’s no problem,” John answered calmly.
Then, Nelson let out a relieved laugh and said, “That’s good. Sandra and I are going to Provence, and we’ll be there for a month. Please take care of Chester in our absence.”

Sandra Qin said to Nina, “Nina, thank you for taking care of Chester. He is an obedient kid, and I promise he won’t give you any trouble.”
Nina didn’t feel anything strange about the first sentence that Sandra Qin said. However, she felt that Sandra Qin was implying something with that second sentence.
“It doesn’t matter. With a child at home, I won’t be too bored,” Nina agreed with a shrug.
“You should have your own child, and the North Yard will be much more lively.” Smiling, Sandra Qin squeezed Nina’s hand and thanked her again.
Lost in her thoughts, Nina pursed her lips slightly.
‘The North Yard is a huge place. How many children do we need to make it lively?’
