- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 3 Episode 39 - (Give up inheriting Ye Group)
Everyone was surprised by Andy’s words.
They knew what he meant.
Toby was not his son but Ella’s child with another man.
No one had expected this revelation. Pairs of inquisitive eyes fell on Ella, which frightened her and made her stagger a few steps back.
The butler was anxious and was about to catch her, but as soon as he raised his head, Andy glared at him and he stepped back.
The butler trembled in fear.
“How dare you slander me?” Ella stood her ground, her face pale. Her voice was so shrill that it hurt Andy’s ears.
Andy looked at her coldly and said, “After you gave birth to Evelyn, I went to the hospital to have myself checked. I was told that I could no longer father another child. When Evelyn was four years old, you got pregnant. At that time, I doubted that the child was mine, so I secretly took a sample of Toby’s DNA and got a paternity test. It came back negative. He’s not mine at all.
I kept that information to myself all these years because I felt sorry for you. I chose to endure you and let Toby grow up in the Song family. I even turned a blind eye to you having affair with the butler.
You want to ruin me? How ridiculous! After Albert is buried tomorrow, I will file for divorce. You take your child and get out of the Song family. You don’t belong here.”
Those were Andy’s final words. Things had been set in stone, and there was no room for maneuver.
The next day, the Ye family and the Song family held a funeral by Blue Lake. The ceremony was simple and solemn.
Julie did not come. She said that she was not feeling well, but in fact, she was unwilling to come. She did not need to be there. It was enough that she knew that Kristina was dead, and a huge thorn had been plucked out of her chest.
Her daughter Vivian was in charge of Ye Group now, and as soon as she gave birth to her and Howard’s son, the boy would inherit the company unchallenged.
No one was happier to see Kristina dead than Julie. Without Kristina, she was one step closer to securing a fortune for herself, her daughter, and her infant son.
Standing in front of the grave, Vivian cried for a long time, but she was not sad at all. Out of the corner of her eye, she kept Howard and Noah under close watch. She leaned in slightly, hoping to catch every word of their conversation. “How have you been all these years, Noah?” This was the first time in four years that they spoke.
After graduating from the police academy, Noah left the Ye family estate and never came back. He cut off all communications with his family except for Kristina.
Howard had always felt guilty about Noah leaving.
“Fine. How about you?” Noah stared at the photo on the tombstone. It was a photo of Kristina leaning her head against Albert’s shoulder and smiling happily.
Albert stared longingly at her with a joyful and satisfied smile on his face. They looked so happy in the photo.
Noah had never seen Albert smile that way. He had always seen him smirking as if he was planning something evil, but in that photo with Kristina, he looked like someone who had found life’s true happiness.
Kristina often smiled, but her smile in the photo was different. It was a smile that belonged on the face of someone who had just been given the world.
Even if the photo on the tombstone was in black and white, Noah could still feel the utter and complete happiness and contentment that it exuded. He took a deep breath and sighed. Now Albert and Kristina were truly together forever, and for Noah, it was enough.
“I guess I’m fine, too,” Howard said reluctantly. Seeing that his son did not even look at him, he felt a little disappointed. Suddenly, he thought of the news that he felt he should tell Noah.
“Your stepmother is pregnant by the way. We’re expecting a boy.”
Noah simply nodded, “I heard. Don’t worry. I have no plans of coming back. I’m not interested in my inheritance if I have one.”
“I didn’t mean it like that, Noah.” Howard looked sideways at his son, who was half a head taller than he was, and sighed.
His little boy had truly grown up.
“I want you to know that you’re my son and the only heir of the Ye family. What should be yours is yours. No one can replace you.” Howard raised his gaze to the skies, his eyes full of sadness and longing.
“I’m still hoping that you’ll come back and take over the family business when you turn thirty. You still have three years to work as a police officer and do what you like.
Our family business has been doing well over the years. Your cousin, Lenard, has been coveting it for a long time. In fact, he has secretly made trouble several times. If you don’t come back, Ye Group may shift its ownership.”

Howard sighed once again and more audibly this time. Regret filled his downcast eyes, which stunned Noah. As far as he knew, Howard did not have regrets.
Noah looked sideways at his father and found himself feeling a little heartbroken upon seeing the age lines on his face.
Time had truly done a number on him.
“Didn’t Vivian manage Ye Group well?” Noah was still unwilling to go back. He looked away from his father.
Howard replied, “She’s not as good as Kristina. The rumors going around are false.”
Howard had been disappointed with Vivian since she failed to secure John as her husband. Their marriage would have done wonders for the Ye family, but Vivian got herself overtaken by Nina.
Howard was just getting old, not dumb. He knew everything about Vivian and Julie’s little tricks. The only reason he could not let go of Julie was that he needed a companion.
He also needed to be supported by his children. Despite her failure, Vivian made him happy. The mother and daughter made Howard feel warm at home.
Ignoring their schemes was a small price to pay.
All the same, his son was the only heir to the Ye family.
“Vivian is working very hard.” Noah turned to look at his father and flashed him a friendly smile. “I want to live my own life, Dad.”
Noah thought he was being selfish, but he did not want to be constrained by his family. He wanted to build a family of his own and live a normal and happy life.
That was his mother’s last wish before she died.
Noah chose to give up the right to inherit Ye Group.
“Alas…” Howard could not win Noah back, but he was satisfied to hear his son call him Dad.
“In that case, I won’t force you. But you have to keep all the shares that Kristina left you. When you get married, I will transfer my shares to your name. Half of Ye Group will be yours.” Howard patted Noah on the shoulder and looked at Kristina’s face on the tombstone with red eyes.
“Kristina loved you the most when she was alive. Can you stay with her for a little longer? I have to go.”
Then, Howard left with Vivian on his heels. Vivian thought about everything she just heard while holding on tightly to her handbag.
She knew that Howard only valued Noah, and all the benefits would not fall on her.
Vivian had never hated Howard and Noah so much before.
A shrewd look flashed through her eyes as she began to think of ways to get all the assets of the Ye Group.
The Song family members had also left except for Evelyn who just stood there blankly with Ford by her side.
Noah stood there like a tree.
The three of them stood by the lake for a long time, but the wind could not blow away the haze in their heads and the sadness in their hearts.
They stood there for a whole day.
When night fell, Ford left with Evelyn. Before leaving, he said to Noah, “I have a document about M.C. that Mr. Song wanted you to have. Contact me when you’re ready to get it.”
“What’s M.C.?” Noah was confused.
“When the time comes, you will know.”
Since Ford did not give a direct answer, Noah did not take him seriously.
