MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 33
A second ago, Nina was paralyzed by her fear of falling from the building. She felt the cold wind against her face, stinging her eyes. The next second, she found herself in a warm embrace. It all happened so fast. John was like a hero that descended from the sky.
Nina could hear John’s heartbeat. Why?
Why did he jump down?
“It’s okay. You’re okay.” John held her in his arms. She could not stop herself from shaking.
Her eyes still hurt so much that they had started to water.
Nina remembered what Michelle’s master, Paul, had said.
“When you love someone, you always choose to be with that person no matter what happens.”
Nina had heard a lot of stories about men dying for love. She used to think they were ridiculous. How could a man be willing to abandon his own life for a woman?
But now
Nina realized the stories were true after all.
John jumped out of the building without hesitation. He was only thinking about protecting her.
He did not just like her.
Maybe it was love because only love was capable of that sort of sacrifice.
“Honey, my hero,” she breathed. ‘John, you are my hero,’ she whispered in her heart.
John’s body froze as a smile slowly appeared on his face.
Finally, his little girl called him honey. He did not expect her to in this situation.
Hearing that term of endearment from his wife was not the end but the beginning of the next stage of their lives.
He had to stay safe so that he could protect his little girl.
It was then that John felt his entire body scream in pain. During the fall, Nina had tried to switch places with him.
She tried turning his back to the sky.
If they had fallen down that way, Nina would have taken the impact.
It would have defeated John’s entire purpose of jumping off the building. He jumped to protect Nina. How could he let her cushion their fall?
At the same time, Nina’s action gave John a hint.
As every muscle in his body barked in pain, John snaked his arms around Nina and pressed her head against his chest. He rested his chin on top of her head.
Nina struggled for a while but eventually stopped.
Understanding John’s intention, Nina started sobbing. Her tears fell like rain on John’s shirt.
‘You stupid thing! You could’ve died!’ Nina cursed in her heart.
“Mr. Shi!” When Richard heard the screams from the third floor of the building, he immediately went to see what was happening.
He saw John looking down at him with a hard look on his face. “Buffer!” John bellowed, and Richard knew right away what he meant.
John was going to take Nina and jump off that building, and he needed something to cushion their fall.
Richard quickly turned around, pulled out an old, flimsy plank, and set it right below John and Nina’s position. The earth was soft enough. The plank should be enough to reduce their momentum. Bang! Crack!
John and Nina smashed against the plank, breaking it in half.
Then, John fell in the mud on his back with Nina tucked safely in his arms. The plank slowed down John’s fall, and John cushioned Nina’s.
Even though the plank significantly softened the impact on John, his body still took a little bit of the blow. His entire body ached every time he drew breath, but it was a small price to pay to keep Nina safe.
John winced.
But he decided to ignore the pain and asked Nina, “How are you feeling? Are you hurt?”
John loosened his arms around Nina, letting her raise her head and look at him. With a tearstained face, she took a deep breath and rolled off John. She lay on her back beside him. She reached for his hand and held it tightly. “I should be the one asking. Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

“Mr. Shi! Mrs. Shi!” Not caring anymore about alerting the enemy, Richard rushed toward John and Nina with his flashlight on.

Only then did Nina notice John’s pale face and the blood trickling down from his temple to his jaw and his arm.
They landed on a muddy patch carpeted with grass that stood about half a meter high. The surrounding weeds were jagged and bloodstained.
John cut himself in them during their fall while she was left unscathed.
“Honey, can you help me up?” Now that Nina had called him honey, John felt warm in his heart to say the word back. Nina’s eyes brimmed with more tears.
She was not used to hearing her husband use a term of endearment on her. All the same, she felt relieved. If John could utter a complete sentence, it would mean that he was okay.
“Let’s get you to the hospital.” Nina propped herself up and climbed to her feet. Then, she helped John up as Richard also rushed in to assist.
John cringed as he rose to his feet. The wooden plank might have helped to lessen the impact, but breaking through it still hurt. He could not stand straight.
The slightest movement was an assault to the senses.
“I’m fine.” John braced himself against Richard to stand straight. Sweat began popping out in little beads on his forehead, and his lips started draining of color. Still, he smiled at his wife.
He felt miserable, but he did not show it.
The noise was so loud that it attracted the attention of Albert’s people. Soon, more than a hundred guards came pouring out of Albert’s secret laboratory in full force.
Ford stood at the small army’s helm. “Halt!” he shouted, and his men fell into formation.
The Shi family’s guards surrounded John, Nina, and Richard and stood protectively around them. Each of them watched Albert’s men with clear, alert eyes.
Some of them were injured, but they still stood with their backs straight, ready to defend John and his wife.
On the other hand, Albert’s men were more weakened. Most of them were bruised, and some even had broken legs and ankles.
Trembling with frustration and anger, Isabella walked toward Ford. When she caught a glimpse of the intact Nina, she mashed her teeth together.
How could that woman be so damn lucky? She fell from the third floor. How was she still standing? Why would she not die?
“Take them down now!” Isabella screamed. “There are over a hundred of us and only a handful of them. Finish them! Now!”
Ignoring Isabella completely, Ford took two steps forward and said respectfully to Nina, “Mrs. Shi, Mr. Song said that Mrs. Song wanted to protect you with her life. He won’t make things difficult for you anymore. You may leave now with Mr. Shi and his people.”
“Ford, what are you doing? Why are you letting them go? Mr. Song wants them locked up in here for a few more days,” Isabella hissed.
Once again, Ford ignored Isabella. He stepped aside, making way for John, Nina, and John’s men. Ford’s men followed his lead and cleared the way.
“Please,” Ford said politely.
He only showed high respect for Albert, Kristina, and Noah. Now Nina had his respect, too.
And it was because of Albert’s order.
The sudden change greatly confused Nina, but she still took Ford’s word. She slung John’s arm over her shoulder and helped him walk out. Richard and John’s men followed suit. They were able to leave without anyone standing in their way.
As soon as they got in the car, Nina ordered Richard to drive straight to Kanner Hospital.
On their way there, John lost consciousness in Nina’s arms. He was sent to the operating room upon their arrival to the hospital.
For the second time, Nina found herself pacing outside the operating room and trying to calm herself. The first time was with Kristina behind the doors, and now it was John.
They were the two people who had always been good to her.
The first time, she was stained with Kristina’s blood. She looked down at her shirt and stared at the blood all over it. It was not hers at all.
John was badly injured. He probably fainted because he had lost a lot of blood.
Nina’s palms and fingertips suddenly turned cold, and her whole body trembled. She stared at the small glass pane on the operating room door and just stood there.
She did not know how long she had waited. When she saw the doctor come out, she rushed to him and asked, “How did it go? How is my husband?”
The doctor took off his mask and answered, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Shi. Mr. Shi is no longer in danger.”
Nina almost collapsed on her knees as relief washed over her.
Soon, a nurse rolled John out of the operation room, and Nina started sobbing.
