MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 24
A cheer sounded from outside, pulling Nina back to reality.
She and John looked at the door and heard a woman yelling, “We did it!”
The Memory Charm had been successfully developed and produced ahead of schedule.
Frowning, John thought that Albert’s newly developed drug was not that good.
“Just ignore them. Inform Richard and Henry to surround Blue Mountain without alerting anyone. They’re not to act rashly without my order.”
“All right. Did you lie to me just now? Have you already figured out a way to get out of this place?”
John ran his fingers through Nina’s hair and chuckled. “Well, I was determined to take you away by force if you ever refused to come home with me.”
“You bastard!” Nina whined, slapping John playfully in the arm.
Nina had contacted Henry first because he was a hacker, and only he could crack the code she sent.
Then, she analyzed the data of Albert’s shady laboratory. The place was secluded, and it had complete security facilities with a high network security index. It was very difficult to break through.
She could not do it alone.
Nina planned to use the same method she used before. “There’s only one way. Once they turn in for the night, I’ll cut off the power, which will deactivate their retinal recognition system. From the moment the lights go out, we have three minutes to make it out undetected.”
Nina was brought here when she was unconscious. She knew nothing about the laboratory. She had no idea how large it was and how many rooms there were.
She did not really know whether three minutes was enough for them to escape.
John held Nina’s slightly cold hand and said affirmatively, “Three minutes is enough. It took me two minutes and forty seconds to get here from the elevator.”
Nina admired him for being able to tell the time so precisely. She sighed and then smiled, “Your genes must be much better than mine.”
“What?” John was confused.
Nina shook her head. “Nothing. Let’s go ahead as planned.”
“Okay.” The next moment, John stood up and scooped Nina up in his arms. He sat on the chair, patted her on the waist, and said, “Get some rest.”
Nina sat on John’s lap with her head against his chest. He held her close. She felt like a child being coaxed to sleep. Nina’s parents had never treated her like this. She had always been taught to be strong.
John’s embrace felt comfortingly warm in the closed, freezing space.
“It’s good to be married to an old man. He’s always very considerate.” Nina rubbed her head against John’s chest. She felt his body suddenly tense after she finished speaking. He seemed a little angry.
She continued naughtily, “Uncle John, do you think I’m right?”
John was speechless. He even seemed like he had stopped breathing.
He paid no attention to the word “considerate.”
He focused on the words “old man” and “Uncle,” which set off alarms in his head.
“What did you just call me?” he said menacingly, but Nina did not even flinch. If anything, he felt her smile.
Nina raised her head at her husband and blinked at him with wide, innocent eyes. “You’re ten years older than I am. Shouldn’t I call you Uncle?”
“Don’t call me that,” John hissed, looking a little upset and embarrassed at the same time.
Nina just chuckled. She then put a hand against John’s chest and closed her eyes. His heartbeat was like a lullaby against her palm. She took almost no time to fall asleep.
John lowered his head and planted a soft kiss on her lips.
Nina did not open her eyes, but a smile spread across her sleeping face.
John held her tightly, making sure that she would not fall off his embrace.
They stayed in the storage room as if nothing bad had happened. Isabella, who was eavesdropping outside, was so angry that she stomped her feet.
“How could they be so happy? Let’s see if they can still laugh later.” Then, she turned on her heel and left.
She went to tell Albert what she had heard.
She exaggerated her report.
Albert was depressed because of Kristina’s death. When he heard that John and Nina were snuggling up together like nothing happened, he felt annoyed.
Coincidentally, Wendy had just reported some good news. Memory Charm had passed the final stages of development and had just been produced. They were ready to conduct human trials.
Albert immediately thought of Nina. “Get Nina and send her to Wendy.” Isabella was overjoyed.

Albert nodded slightly, but then he thought about the enmity between Nina and Isabella. Before Isabella could exit the room, he stopped her, fearing that she would hurt Nina.
“Never mind. I’ll go get her myself.”
If Nina was hurt, Kristina would definitely feel sad, and Albert did not want that.
Isabella turned around, frowning. By the tone of Albert’s voice, she surmised that he did not trust her. With disappointment in her eyes, she quietly stepped aside and made way for him.
Albert went to the storage room and pushed the door open. He felt his eyes sting at the sight of John and Nina holding onto each other.
From where he was standing, Albert could only see the side of Nina’s face, which weirdly looked like Kristina’s.
But he knew that she was not Kristina because Kristina was gone, and she was never coming back. He swallowed the bitter lump in his throat.
“How did your conversation with her go?” Albert asked John. He still smiled. There was no sadness on his face, but his eyes were still red.
John kept looking down at Nina who was sleeping in his arms. His answer to Albert sounded extremely cold.
“She wants to come home to North Yard with me.”
Albert beamed, “Well, good for you. In the meantime, I want to talk to her alone.”
Nina slowly opened her eyes. Albert’s cold, hard voice pulled her out of sleep. “We have nothing to talk about,” she murmured. She had not forgiven him for what he had done to Kristina. In fact, she did not think she would be able to forgive him ever.
Albert did not react rashly. Instead, he asked patiently, “Don’t you and your husband want to leave here? I’m trying to give you an out. If I’m satisfied with how our conversation goes, then I’ll let you two go home to North Yard.”
“And what if you’re unsatisfied?” Nina snorted coldly and stayed in John’s arms.
Albert replied seriously, “As long as you agree to one request, I’ll be happy. If I’m happy, I’ll let you and Mr. Shi leave safely. I can’t let Mr. Shi stay here too long, or there will be more than forty-one people coming to Blue Mountain.”
Hearing this, Nina sat up.
John frowned slightly, his deep eyes gleaming with a faint, cold light.
Albert had found them.
Forty guards and Henry were waiting nearby. There were forty-one people in total that surrounded his laboratory at the moment. Albert had clearly known it.
It seemed that there were many powerful people working for Albert, and they were not simple.
Albert spoke politely, but in truth, he was threatening them.
Judging from the current situation, he seemed to have the upper hand.
“Fine.” Nina stood up, agreeing to Albert’s request.
John grabbed her wrist and held it tightly. He stood up as well and pulled her behind him.
“I’ll go with her,” John demanded.
“No. I will talk to her alone,” Albert resisted.
Ignoring the mockery in Albert’s tone, John repeated through gritted teeth, “I will go with her.”
He turned to face Nina and said, “I won’t let you talk to him alone. Either he talks to both of us or he doesn’t talk to anyone at all.”
A sense of oppression hung in the air like storm clouds about to burst.
A stiff smile formed on Albert’s face. “Fine. No talk then.”
He turned around and was about to leave, but Nina stopped him. “Wait.” Albert smiled smugly.
He had expected that Nina would compromise.
John was a tough guy, but Nina was not.
John once threatened her using Michelle, and she instantly yielded. She always compromised for those dear to her.
“Very well. Follow me.” Then, Albert turned on his heel and left.
Nina stood on tiptoe and kissed the corner of John’s mouth before following Albert out.
As the door swung shut and Nina’s figure disappeared behind it, John’s left eyelid twitched. He felt his heart sink and his palms turn cold.
He knitted his brows.
Even if Nina flashed him a reassuring smile before heading out, he did not feel at ease at all.
