MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 23
Nina’s eyelashes fluttered.
The kiss felt different as if it was laden with guilt and pity.
John could feel her hot tears, making his heart ache.
It was his fault. He didn’t trust her enough.
He withdrew his mouth from hers, still pressing his forehead against hers. He grazed his nose with hers as he cupped her face with his hands that trembled slightly. He was apologizing to her.
Even in the darkness, Nina could perceive the guilt written all over his face. The weight of his words was not lost on her either.
Considering the proud man he was, it was a huge deal that he was taking the initiative to apologize.
She felt a lump form in her throat as tears continued to fall down. It wasn’t until then that she realized just how she truly needed his care and affection.
“Why didn’t you come home last night? I waited up for you…” She was still upset about the fact that her husband didn’t come home that night. She fruitlessly stayed up late waiting for him.
Even just the mere thought of it made her chest tighten.
Hearing her voice like that made John’s heart ache one more. It pained him to see her so hurt like this. He pressed his lips against her and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
With that, he planted a soft kiss on her face.
A moment later, he loosened his grip on her. He kept his forehead pressed against hers as he grabbed her hand and placed it over his chest as if he wanted her to feel his heart beating.
Her fingertips trembled as a desire for the warmth of his lips arose in her chest. Without hesitation, she kissed him.
She kissed him softly and tenderly as ever.
It almost seemed as if she was teasing him.
Her hand lingered on his chest as the lust surged inside him.
Even though they were locked up, she still wanted to tease him.
Despite the yearning inside him, he couldn’t bring himself to sleep with her considering their circumstances.
“My little girl, I’ll teach you a lesson when we get home.” He grabbed her clammy hand, his touch tender as he kissed her at the corner of her mouth. She smiled, her eyes glistening like the stars in the night, her charm radiating more than ever.
“Is there any way to get out?”
“No,” John responded calmly.
“You really can’t get out?” Nina asked in disbelief.
“No.” John squinted his eyes. “Before I met you, I thought you were a spy that Albert had planted. I came to see you just to see if you’d be willing to go back to North Yard with me.”
Upon hearing this, Nina’s heart sank. She actually thought she would be saved. This was the last thing she expected from him.
Was he even using his brain?
On second thought, even if he thought she was a spy, he still convinced her to stay.
At times, John’s stubbornness only made him seem cute.
“All right, give me my watch. Maybe I can get out.” Nina then stretched out her hand.
John arched his eyebrow as he took off his watch and handed it to her. “How did you know?”
“I just accidentally touched your wrist.” Nina received the watch and got off John’s lap. She gestured for him to stand up so she could use the chair.
John promptly stood up, keeping his gaze glued on the watch. She pressed the button on the side as a beam of light shot through the darkness. The image of the keyboard reflected against the chair as a huge virtual screen appeared midair.
The dark room was suddenly illuminated. It was only then that John noticed how serious Nina’s injury truly was.
Her face was blood-stained while her body seemed frail and emaciated.

She seemed pallid with bruises littered all over her arms. The snake bites were visible even though the blood had dried already.

Her skin was naturally fair that even when he touched her, it would leave a few marks.
Noticing the bruises on her arms, he concluded that she must have struggled with the snake for quite a bit. Since she was strong and knew how to fight, she was able to fight off the snake.
She must have been so afraid. She had to overcome her fear and fight for her life at the same time.
Just the mere thought of it made John’s heart ache. It hurt so much that he found it difficult to breathe.
He lowered his head as guilt welled up inside him, eyes dimmed.
Meanwhile, Nina settled herself on the floor so that it would be easy to work. To her surprise, he pulled her up.
He sat on the floor and placed Nina on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her from behind as kissed her gently on the neck. In a soft voice, he promised, “I’ll make sure they suffer ten times the pain you felt today.”
She could feel his hot breath on her neck, feeling her heart tremble. Now that she thought about it, being bitten by a snake wasn’t so painful as he had made it out to be.
Nina’s fingers began drumming on the keyboard. She had to pinpoint their location first.
As soon as she began, it didn’t take long for John to figure out what she was trying to do.
“We’re under an abandoned factory at the foot of the Blue Mountain in northern suburbs. Albert has built a lab here which could explain the strong chemical stench. In the past six months, he invested a considerable amount in medical construction. I’m guessing he’s developing a new kind of medicine. It’s probably all top secret.”
While John was being brought here, he was blindfolded. Still, he kept his ears open, listening carefully for any clues as to which land in the northern suburbs they were in.
Sam wanted to conquer Lexingport City. That was why his children all knew the city well.
Lexingport City was the economic center of the country.
It was no secret that Sam was an ambitious man.
Based on the route the car took and the environment, John could already tell that they were at the foot of the Blue Mountain.
Nina momentarily paused as she asked in disbelief, “You actually understood what I’m doing? What level are you at now anyway?”
“Level 5,” John said coolly.
Stunned, she recalled how Time Group was attacked last time and how clueless he was back then.
Now he suddenly was at Level 5?
“How long did it take you to reach that level?” She swallowed back, bracing herself for his answer.
He studied the strange look on her face as he deliberately lied, “A month.”
In reality, it only took him half a month. He only took around three hours a day to study.
She heaved a deep breath as incredulity was written all over her face.
“You’re so smart. God must really love you. I spent around…”
She suddenly stopped as if she decided against continuing what she was about to say.
It was a little embarrassing to say it out loud.
It took her three years to get to where she was now.
What took him a month to learn took her two years to learn.
She then hoped inwardly that John’s genes would be strong enough that their child’s IQ would be as high as his.
If anything, their child might even turn out smarter than John.
Before she knew it, she was lost in thought.
