MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 100
Angela was outraged. “What’s up with John? This is Nina’s first birthday in the North Yard. How could he just leave like that?”
“Maybe it was an emergency. Maybe he didn’t have a choice.” Daniel patted his wife on the shoulder.
Nina was disappointed.
But she was grateful that so many people came to her birthday party. She raised her head and smiled. “It doesn’t matter. Let’s cut the cake.”
Nina’s favorite thing was to cut the cake and then distribute the pieces to all of her guests.
She thought that sharing would make her happy.
“You’re right. I’ve been looking forward to this. It looks delicious.” Michelle was quite vocal about food.
Emma stopped her and said, “We can’t cut it now, Mimi. We have to light candles for Nina to make a wish on.”
“Emma’s right. I’ll get the candles.” James tried to be helpful.
Emma felt anxious when she heard James say her name.
She stole a glance at him, then quickly looked away.
“Um…where are they?” James looked around but couldn’t find the candles.
Just then, a person dressed in an elk costume came over, carrying candles. Angela’s eyes lit up. “Look what the elk found!”
Turning around, Nina saw someone dressed like they were going to a costume party. The person wore an elk costume, standing upright and holding candles.
At the first sight of the elk’s horns, Nina recognized it was the elk that had led her to safety when she lost her way in the forest on C Island.
After that, she often sneaked off to look for the elk, scouring the island, trying to find it.
Besides her brother, the elk was her favorite playmate.
“Little elk…” Tears fell from Nina’s eyes. She looked at everyone excitedly. “This is my elk. I can tell because its horns are unique. It’s my good friend.”
Michelle smiled and said, “Yes, it’s your little elk. Uncle John asked Leon about it and commissioned the costume. He asked someone to wear it to the party.” Nina looked at the person walking towards her. The person looked a little clumsy in the costume.
The costume was so complete there was no way to tell who was inside.
The person took a step forward, stopped in front of Nina for two seconds, and then walked past.
A familiar scent reached Nina’s nostrils.
‘John.
John’s the guy in the costume!
He never left the party.
Everyone was in on the prank.’
With a gentle smile, Nina didn’t immediately expose their trickery.
Instead, she turned and watched as John inserted the candles into the cake one by one and carefully lit each wick.
Then he stepped aside.
Michelle held Nina’s hand and said, “Nini, close your eyes and think hard. You can make three wishes.”
With her hands crossed over her chest, Nina slowly closed her eyes. Her face seemed to glow in the candlelight, and the shadow of her thin eyelashes could be seen.
“I hope my brother can be happy.” Nina had the habit of speaking her wishes aloud.
She thought if she did that it would make the wishes come true.
She knew people often celebrated their birthdays with others who were near and dear to their hearts. If she said her wishes out loud, at least her loved ones knew what she wanted for them.
And maybe they’d take steps to make themselves happy.
But most people believed that wishes would not come true if you told them to anyone.
One of the guests wanted to stop Nina from saying her wishes out loud. John gently shook his head, indicating no one should disturb her.
John had already figured it out.
He knew the forest, the elk and that Nina would tell everyone what she wished for.
Nina continued to make wishes.
“I hope all my good friends can be happy. And I want a forest with only one banyan tree.”
James and Dora were gobsmacked.

“What the hell?” James whispered. Dora was confused. “How can a banyan tree be considered a forest?”
But Daniel and Angela understood what Nina meant. Angela told her children, “You should study more.”
Dora thought of Emma, who was said to be a top student.
“Emma, what does it mean?”
At the same time, James also looked at Emma. She said softly, “There’s a saying: a tree alone cannot become a forest. But that doesn’t include banyan trees. One banyan tree can become a forest.”
‘One banyan tree can become a forest, which means you’re my forest. Wherever I go, you’re always by my side.’ Emma thought.
Emma took a look at John. It looked very hot. He must be drenched in sweat wearing that costume.
Emma looked at Nina’s face. She was blowing out her candles. Emma envied the love that John had for Nina.
Emma felt a little sad when she thought about her love.
She inadvertently glanced at James, who was also looking at her. When their eyes met, Emma’s heart beat faster.
She immediately lowered her eyes, turned around and picked up the camera to take a photo of Nina.
After Nina blew out all the candles, everyone else applauded and erupted in a chorus of “Happy Birthday!”
When John saw that Nina had no intention of trying to find him, he felt glum. He walked over to James and kicked him.
James immediately understood and stopped Nina from cutting the cake.
“Hold on, Aunt Nina. I think you should wait for Uncle John and cut the cake when he’s here.”
“No way. He won’t be back for hours. He’s too busy with work. Let’s cut it now.” As she spoke, Nina plunged the knife into the cake.
John kicked James again, harder than before.
“Ow! Wait a minute, Aunt Nina.” James took the plastic knife from her hand.
“Uncle John just sent me a message. He said he’d be here soon and wanted you to find his gift first.”
“His gift?” Nina was intrigued.
“Uncle John said that the gift is in this artificial forest. You should look for it now.” James gestured at the forest.
As expected, Nina set about trying to find the gift.
She thought the gift John gave her must be very special indeed.
Nina was searching high and low for this gift, her back to everyone.
“It’s too hot in here. I gotta take it off,” John whispered.
“No, you can’t!” John started to lift the headgear off. James lunged at him and held it in place. “Look, if you do this, you’ll ruin the surprise. Make your appearance later, after she finds the gift. This was your idea. You have to see it through.”
John nodded. “You’re right.”
He thought that Nina would be touched if she knew that he had hidden himself in the elk costume for a while.
Thinking about this, he didn’t mind being hot.
Nina thought she saw something. She paused at one particular tree and knocked on the trunk twice. She heard an echo. She balled her fist and drove it through the tree trunk, making a hole. The sound of the impact startled the others.
They all looked at the small iron hammer nearby. She was supposed to use that. They were shocked to see her break the artificial tree with her bare hands.
Nina reached into the tree trunk and took out a square box. When she was about to untie the bow and open the box, she found the bow was fake.
There was a password lock.
“Who knows the password?” Nina held up the box and the others shook their heads.
“Find Uncle John. He’ll give you the password,” James prompted.
Nina paused for a moment and said, “Then I won’t unwrap the gift.”
Everyone gasped in shock.
John didn’t know what to say.
‘What a bad idea!’ he thought.
