As Liz saw the real emotions in Melissa’s eyes, she couldn’t help but completely loosen the hold on her neck before stepping back with staggered steps.

After she was done, Melissa gasped her breath, almost as if it had been physically tiring for her to speak so much, and lay out the truth.

Touching her neck and feeling the bruised skin, Melissa hurriedly moved to the mirror and checked, before seeing the clear, green and purple bruises before exclaiming, “Oh no! Mr. Benson will know! What do we do?!”

Liz couldn’t care less right now, as she was still reeling from what she had just heard.

That was what she would be? A mistress- living an empty and worthless life?

That was who Will would become?

NO!

Inwardly screaming this word, Liz straightened her back.

For even a second, how could she have thought that Will would become like this?

She had never been wrong in her judgment of people, and she had always been clear about who Will was deep inside, even if she didn’t know all the details about him.

That was what she had been attracted to since the beginning: beneath all the looks, the shyness, and the facade, she knew that he was someone who could understand her and cared for her, as she was.

But what if Melissa was right? What if that did change?

Didn’t it happen in almost all real love stories? Wasn’t it a truth that change was inevitable?

What would she do in that case? Would she be trapped like Melissa? Or would she leave, no matter what it cost her, like many women would?

No. Liz wasn’t like those women who would settle with those two extremes, which were either settling in and accepting their life, or leaving and looking for life elsewhere.

No, if Will changed, she would change him back, because she was confident that she could, and that she would be doing nothing wrong.

She had heard numerous people say that a woman who changes her other half for her own ends was despicable. Shameful.

Liz didn’t agree with that. Since her childhood, if she liked something or someone, she would protect them with all her might.

In her mind, changing Will back, if that sort of thing did happen, was a form of protection, and because she believed in herself, she knew she was right.

This was who she was. She wouldn’t apologize to anyone for it, and she sure as hell wouldn’t feel shame.

Besides, she was confident that she was right about Will. And it wasn’t even like she was going to hide this conversation in her heart. No, after this dinner was done, she and Will were going to have a very direct talk.

After Liz’s thoughts flowed to this point, her eyes seemed to flash, as if the clarity in her mind was being reflected in reality.

Melissa had been watching her, puzzled as to why she was standing still for so long, but when this clarity and self-determination shone, she couldn’t help but shy away from it, as it was something she had never had.

It was certainly something she wished she could possess, as if she did, she would definitely not have chosen to live this dreary life of hers.

Looking at Melissa, Liz realized that this was a problem.

The bruises were very apparent, and if someone was experienced in these sorts of things, they would be able to tell right away that they were caused by someone’s hands around her neck.

Thinking deeply for a few seconds, Liz shrugged.

F*ck it, she thought.

“Just tell him the truth. And tell him I apologized. Tell him that, but you won’t be getting one from me.”

“B-but, he-”

“I’ll handle him if it comes to that. In fact, I trust Will will, in the same manner that I trust him not to become what you mentioned. I pity you, Melissa. Why don’t you just leave?”

As Melissa heard Liz speak in such a frank voice, she couldn’t help but look away with shame.

“B-because I got too used to this lifestyle. I d-don’t know what I would do if I left…and I don’t think Mr. Benson will let me leave. H-he wouldn’t be able to tolerate a woman leaving him. It’s only the opposite that usually happens.”

Hearing this, Liz sighed before walking to the washbasin and washing her hands.

Indeed, she had felt disgust for the woman before, but right now, there was more pity.

So, she decided to at least give some advice.

“Here’s some advice, Melissa. Woman to woman. You can make him leave you. Ask yourself how, and you’ll know that there’s a way. He’ll think he’s the one doing it. And as for the lifestyle, be creative. If I were you, I would try to keep the divorce clean, so that I could use him to further my own business, or whatever. Well, that’s just what I would do. Let’s go. We can’t keep them waiting for too long.”

A glow seemed to appear in Melissa’s eyes as she heard this, and she looked at Liz as if she were looking at a monster.

This woman really…wasn’t typical at all.

Maybe…she wouldn’t reach the same fate? Was it possible?

Well, only time would tell.

Nodding, Melissa arranged her hair in the mirror for a moment before walking to the door.

Liz was standing beside it, waiting.

Melissa was just about to nod to her before stepping out, but suddenly, she felt a hand at the back of her neck, yanking her head up in a sudden movement which caused pain.

What the heck had gotten into her now? Wasn’t she just being all preachy?!

As the panic started to appear in Melissa again, Liz bent close to her ear and whispered in a threatening voice, “And if you ever even think of William again, I’ll come for you. And you won’t be able to hide. Remember that.”

As soon as the last word floated into her ear, Liz left the grip on her neck and marched out, leaving Melissa staring at the door with an expression of absolute horror on her face.

Fearsome.

That’s who she was.

A fearsome woman.

And if she entered the High Society, oh, there was definitely going to be a whole lot of chaos.
