“What sort of protection is this? That’s a ridiculous amount to pay.”

Hannah sighed, leaning into Wilbur’s ear to whisper, “It’s a scam, that’s what it is. It used to be just eight hundred thousand dollars, but ever since this new head of department showed up, the amount has been constantly increasing. I had no choice but to pay for it.”

Wilbur snorted out of sheer anger at those words.

He looked over at Bari. “You dare f*cking scam someone like me? Are you looking to die?”

“Watch your tone, sir.” Bari got to his feet, staring at Wilbur coldly. “These are orders from the head of the safety department. If you refuse to follow, you’re shutting your doors.”

Wilbur sneered coldly. “Is that so? Do you know about the relationship between Everest Foreign Trade and the president, then?”

“It was the president who elected our new head of department. As if someone like you would actually know the president!” Bari sneered in disdain.

Realization dawned upon Wilbur at last.

After Rogan had gotten rid of Lars, he had brought his own friends and family into the system to reaffirm his power.

This new head of department, along with Bari, did not make the cut to be an official at all.

Wilbur looked at Bari coldly. “F*ck off right now and tell your bullshit head of department that I’ll make sure he spends the rest of his life in jail if he gives Everest Foreign Trade any more trouble. Got it?”

“Who are you to tell me that?” Bari burst out laughing. “God, this is so funny. A foreign trade company speaking like this in my country? We’d be screwed if we just let you do whatever you want to us, wouldn’t we? I guess you leave me no choice but to issue a production ban.”

Wilbur fell silent. Hannah looked at him, unsure what to do herself.

A while later, Wilbur said, “How about you get your head of department over here?

I’ll give him a big present, on top of the hundred million dollars.”

“Really?” Bari’s eyes practically shone with greed.

Wilbur smiled. “I’m a man of my word.”

Bari blinked before saying, “I’m afraid our department head can’t make it today himself.”

“I’m sorry, then. We won’t be paying a single cent.” Wilbur sat down, lighting a cigarette.

Hannah sat next to Wilbur as well, saying nothing.

Bari’s mind began to race again.

He would never have dared to ask for so much money in broad daylight.

But the new head of department had just come into position, and he desperately needed cash.

Bari had spent a fortune to get the position and had only even gotten it because he was related to the president as well.

He now owed a huge debt and still had to pay off his investors.

Bari gave it some thought, and said, “I’ll make a call.”

“Go ahead,” Wilbur smiled.

Bari took his phone out, dialing a number. He mumbled into the receiver for a while, before seemingly handing up. “Our head of department’s busy, and he’s also ordered for you to hand the money over by today.”

Wilbur’s expression darkened at once. “Sure. I’ll make a call myself too, then.” Bari sneered, sitting back down.

Wilbur came outside, calling Rogan’s number.

“Mister President?”

“Mister Penn! How are you?” Rogan greeted Wilbur politely.

Wilbur sneered. “Terrible.”

“Why? What’s the matter?” Rogan sensed that something was off at once.

“Your new safety department head just asked Everest Foreign Trade for a hundred million dollars in protection fees, and that makes me feel terrible.” “What? No way, how could that happen?” Rogan denied Wilbur’s claims at once. Wilbur sneered coldly. “There’s a man by the name of Bari who’s sat in Hannah’s office right now waiting for the money. What do you think I should do?”

“Give me a few minutes. I’ll send someone over to handle this right now,” said Rogan.

“I’m hoping you can come here personally and bring that head of department of yours with you. Also, I hope this doesn’t happen again.”
