“Are you dying?”

I frozed at a spot.
I felt my vision go totally blank. I didn’t know why but I had this strange fear in me.
Fear that she might really know the truth.
Or why would she ask such question?.

” I’m sorry to make you go speechless. I just couldn’t help but ask. ”
She suddenly broke the silence.
Making me release the breath I didn’t Know I was holding.

Though my body still tensed, I stuttered a reply. ” Why did u ask such?? ”

She shook her head. Signify nothing.
” It’s just that you take decisions like a dying man. ” .

That said, she turned off the lampstand beside her.

Her last words reechoed in my head. Hitting me so deep.

I walked out of her room without saying a word.
I unknot my tie and collapsed on the bed.

I take decisions like a dying man Because I am dying.

I lament bitterly as my heart stinged.

Why did she have to say that?.. does she know how much that hurts?.
She just cut me so deep without she even knowing it.

Well,. It doesn’t matter anyway. In few weeks time I’ll be a dead man. And the least I can do is manage to stay happy.

Adriana had her hands clutched around her lower belly. She breath sadly. Still finding it hard to believe she’s with a child. Davis heir.

She shut her eyes for a while. Then sighed out.
Why did she even ask davis such a question?.
Even if he was dying, did she think he’d tell her the truth?.
Or Betty was just trying to get into her head.

It’s true Davis take decisions like a dying man.
But is he really dying?…
She shudder a bit.

She wouldn’t want to place the words of Betty in heart.

If he’s dying or not, she,(Adriana) will still end up losing in both sides because,..
Once he finds out she’s with a child, he’ll act different because the contract is already a success.. and if eventually she births this child, they’ll have to part ways. Sadly.

The second is that,.. if Davis is a dying man,.. then she’ll have no choice than to accept fate.
Davis dies and life won’t be the same for her.

Either way, she’ll still lose Davis at the end.

The thought downed on her as she shut her eyes for sleep.

9:@m. Next morning.

I work up having this squishy feeling in my head. It hurts so bad.
Dabbing my eyes tiredly, I rolled out of the bed as the bright Ray’s shone bright into the room.

“It’s nine already”
I muttered to no one exactly..

” Mom.”
I pushed open the door and what visited my nose was a very sweet aroma. And I was craving so bad to have a taste of whatever it is.
That’s my mom. She always have a way to make me happy with special delicacies. I may not have taste it yet, but I believe I’m gonna love it.

I trailed the aroma towards the kitchen with a wide smile on my face.
” How thoughtful of you to have…..

My voice stopped the moment I saw who it was.

” Davis?”
I arched a confused brow.

He was on a milk apron, doing the dishes. It’s him? Where’s mom?.. why is he doing the dishes? Isn’t he supposed to be in durec?

” You’re finally awake. ” He breath out.
Drying his hands with s neat cloth.

” What are you doing here?” I asked.

He threw me a puzzle look. ” This is my house. And I leave here. ” He emphasized.

” No. No. I mean, why are you still home?.. you’re supposed to be working. ”

He walked closer to me. A silly smile dance at the corner of his lips.

” I’m the boss. So I decided to take a leave.”
He replied. Stopping few inches away from me.

I drift back a little.

“Where’s mom?”

I asked. Looking around as though I’ll find her there.

” Oh. She didn’t tell you?”

” Tell me what?”

” She left” he blurtantly replied.

I scoffed in disbelief. Why would he say, she left. … Left to where?.

” She went on a vacation with my mom. To Paris. ”

“What the fvck!? Paris??? ”
I freaked out.

” I fixed their tickets… And they gone. They will be back in two weeks. ” He smiled.
Making me wonder if any of what he just said is funny..

” Are you crazy Davis? How dare you?.. and no body dare told me about this trip?..”

Now I was so infuriated. How the hell did they manage to keep me in the dark?

” Adriana. ”

” Don’t fvcking call my name you asshole!”
” How the fvck did you plan all these?… My mom gone. To Paris. Not even with my knowledge. ? Who the fvck do you think you are. to make decisions without my knowledge. ”

” I don’t get , why are you angry? Your mom said. ..”

” My mom fvcking said nothing. I can’t believe you’re this ….uh! Whatever. I don’t want to see your face right now. ” I yelled out.

I didn’t know why I was this infuriated but I am.
It’s so fvcking exhausting. How dare he and my mom. And to think they took Jayden too,?… he literally takes decision for everyone?

” Adriana. ”

” Don’t call my name. ,” I snapped at him.

I walked towards the fridge and picked out a bottled water..

” You don’t care about anyone. Except yourself. ”

I didn’t know why I said that. But,.. I felt I really needed to say it. He stared at me speechlessly. His lips parted a little as if he wanted to say something.
Yeah, I was expecting him to say something and not go all dumb. … But he said nothing.

I sighed out frustrated. I opened the kitchen door and made to leave but.. …

” SURPRISE!!!”

I felt my heart summersault in shock as I stared at all of them. Mom, Jaden… Davis mom and Clarisse..

” Aww. Happy birthday cupcake”
My mom walked closer and placed a tender kiss on my chin..

It’s my birthday today?
Oh. It’s my birthday. I totally forgot. This was a surprise. ?
Even the Paris thing?. Gosh how stupid of me to have believed.

” Did you make the dish Davis?”
My mom asked. All eyes towards Davis as he took off his apron.

” Yeah ” he breath out. Then walked forward.

” Just like she loves it.” Those icy eyes fixed on mine. I could feel it so cold. Piercing mine.

” Happy birthday ” he mouthed. No expression on his face before walking out on all of us.

” He looks not so Happy. Did anything happen dear?”
His mom asked .

At first I was silent. But later on shook my head.

” Nothing happened. ” I faked a convincing smile.

” Good. So,… Happy birthday my beautiful daughter in-law. ”
She grinned. Giving to me my cake.

“Thanks. ” I muttered.

So much for being a fake daughter in-law.
I smiled, staring at the cake.
The big balloons still in their hands.

I can’t believe I just yelled at Davis for nothing.
I feel so guilty.

I gave my mom the cake and walked out on them too.
Leaving them speechless.
