“Sorry… I didn’t know you…” Walter’s low, desolate voice came from beside my ear, choked with emotion,

I kept my eyes closed, without uttering a word.

My hand was held in his, warmth seeping through. I pulled my hand back, avoiding him.

I didn’t know if I was being too sensitive, but I felt that his body stiffened slightly at that moment.

“Tabatha.” His voice came again, “We will have children in the future…”

I suddenly opened my eyes, anger and resentment surging in my heart, yet I remained silent, just staring at him. Perhaps due to excessive torment, he looked particularly haggard. A faint stubble had sprouted around his lips, making him appear even more worn out.

“Walter, you killed your own child with your own hands!” I began, looking into his eyes, uttering each word one by one.

He looked at me, his dark eyes swirling with pain and torment, bloodshot, but he didn’t say a word.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, suppressing the pain in my heart, and said, “You can go now, don’t come back again, I don’t want to see you.”

Suddenly, he grabbed my hand, his voice hoarse, “Tabatha, we…”

He gripped my hand tightly, letting me roar in anger. His black eyes stared at me, his voice hoarse, “I won’t leave. If you hold resentment in your heart, you can hit me, scold me.

“Bang!” I was truly angry. I picked up something nearby without thinking and threw it at him. Only after it hit did I realize it was a hot water kettle.

He didn’t dodge, allowing me to smash it directly. The pot was broken, the hot water inside splashed on his face, on his body. He still didn’t dodge, his whole person still tightly gripping my hand, a pair of black eyes staring straight at me.

The noise was too loud, and my mother outside the door and Alexander rushed in. Seeing that I was okay, both of them breathed a sigh of relief. However, seeing the kettle that had fallen on the ground and Walter, who was steaming hot, they were both stunned for a

moment.

Mother reacted quickly, looking at Walter she said, “This hot water was just boiled, hurry… hurry and check the shower water, otherwise it will start to blister soon.”

Walter didn’t move, his dark eyes still fixed on me, his voice low and restrained, “Have you calmed down?”

I looked at him, still filled with resentment in my heart, ignoring the places where he was burned. I wanted to pull my hand back, but he still held on tightly and wouldn’t let go.

The anger in my heart hadn’t subsided at all. Seeing him still stubbornly holding onto me, I abruptly grabbed a small knife used for peeling fruit from the side and viciously stabbed it into the back of the hand he was using to hold me.

“Tabatha!” My mother screamed when she saw me like this.

But Walter didn’t move, he was still looking at me, there was no sign of pain in his dark eyes.

“Mad, they’re all mad!” Alexander looked at Walter’s blood-soaked hand, forcefully pulled him up, and shouted towards the door, “Doctor!”

Afterwards, Walter was almost dragged away.

My mother looked at me, her heart still pounding, and after a long silence, she finally said, “Tabatha, you…”

“Mom, I want to divorce him.” I said, staring at the empty doorway. Turning back to my mother, I continued, “Can you contact the lawyer who worked with dad before he passed away? I need him to draft a divorce agreement for me.”

My mother looked at me, opened her mouth slightly, and nodded. Sweat broke out on her forehead due to nervousness. After she raised her hand to wipe it off, she still seemed a bit startled and said, “Child, you can’t do this in the future, especially hurting yourself,

understand?”

I nodded, my tense nerves finally relaxing at that moment. I leaned weakly against the hospital bed, my gaze hollow and empty.

So heartbroken that I couldn’t breathe.

My mother tidied up the mess in the sickroom, called the doctor to examine me, and then sat beside me, silently shedding tears.

I knew she was worried about me, but at that moment, I didn’t want to speak. I just wanted to wallow in my misery.

An hour later, Alexander returned. As soon as he entered the ward, his

Alexander sighed slightly, looking at me and said, “He didn’t die, but there’s a high chance his hand is ruined. The doctor said he injured his nerves, he might not be able to lift heavy objects in the future.”
