After Lucas took away the rest of Ezra’s men, he came over to greet us. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Lucas looked at me and said, “Ms. Conner, I will report the details of this incident to my superiors. Thank you for your significant help. If it weren’t for you, we might have let Ezra escape.”

I shook my head, still somewhat uncertain as I looked at him and asked, “Lucas, is Ezra really dead? Have you found his body?”

Lucas gave a faint smile, looking at me and said, “The explosion of the yacht was quite powerful, many things were destroyed, and Ezra’s body was probably blown to ashes. The sea is too vast, it’s impossible for us to salvage his remains from the sea. But rest assured, he was shot in the leg at the time and you stabbed his arm. Plus, he was injured when he was fighting with Mr. Hinton in the cabin. Under such circumstances, he had no chance to jump into the sea, nor could he save himself in a matter of seconds. So, he was undoubtedly dead.”

I only breathed a sigh of relief after listening.

I felt much more relaxed. After a pause, I thought of Owen and couldn’t help but look at him and ask, “Lucas, has Owen been caught?”

“Yep, we got him,” Lucas began, continuing, “We’ve also caught Thomas and Ryan. Don’t worry, we’ll give you an explanation.”

I nodded and expressed my thanks.

After I finished speaking, Lucas turned to Walter, paused slightly, and with a hint of regret on his face, he said, “Mr. Hinton, the lead on Ezra

might be temporarily cut off. Now all we can do is pray that Ezra’s subordinates can provide some useful information.”

Walter pursed his lips, a hint of aloofness showing on his handsome face. He gave a slight nod, without any unnecessary words. He had always been good at hiding his emotions, but I still noticed something unusual from the slight gleam in his eyes.

That was the disappointment after hopes were dashed.

Disappointed?

I was full of doubts, what was the clue in Lucas’s words? Why was Walter disappointed?

I didn’t know if I was overthinking, but I unconsciously recalled the events from five years ago. Even now, I still couldn’t figure it out. Given Walter’s status and identity, why would someone like him fall into Ezra’s hands, be blinded, and be tortured day and night in a water dungeon?

I was not one to pry into others’ privacy, so I had never asked. But now, hearing Lucas’s words, I couldn’t help but wonder. Was Walter looking for something in Ezra? A person? Or some unknown past event?

Lucas didn’t continue to talk much with Walter, he just let out an almost inaudible sigh and went on to arrange other matters.

Looking at Walter, I didn’t ask much. I just looked at his already injured hand, which was mangled and bloody from the fierce fight with Ezra, unbearable to look at. I unconsciously furrowed my brows and finally couldn’t help but say, “If the wound isn’t treated, the hand will be useless.”

He glanced down at his unbearable hand, his dark eyes turned to me, his thin lips slightly parted, “I thought you were looking forward to my

A lump formed in my throat, I stopped talking, turned around and entered the cabin.

His hand was the result of the resentment I had nowhere to vent after waking up from the hospital. I was speechless, the moment I found out the child was gone, I was full of resentment, wishing I could kill him and Ashley. That’s when he ran into the muzzle.

Half an hour ago, I didn’t feel the slightest bit of sympathy for him. However, when he just now jumped off the yacht and desperately rushed towards me, pushing me out of the cabin, and in the last moment before the yacht exploded, took me with him as he jumped off the yacht, those feelings that I had been suppressing deep within me were ultimately impossible for me to ignore.

Perhaps, it was fate!

After all that fuss, it was a close call but we made it through safely.

I had originally planned to stay one night in Chesterburg before leaving, but I really didn’t feel like staying any longer. After all that I had been through, I just couldn’t calm my emotions. Even if I stayed here for a night, I doubted I would be able to sleep.

Secondly, having caught Thomas and Ryan, the top priority was to retrieve the funds they had swallowed to fill the financial gap of the Conner Group. The sooner the funds were recovered, the sooner Alexander could breathe a sigh of relief. Otherwise, it was not feasible for him to keep struggling day by day.

Upon exiting the airport terminal, Walter stopped me as I was about to hail a taxi. “I’ve asked Roy to pick us up, no need for a taxi,” he said.

I pursed my lips, saying lightly, “No need, we’re not going the same way, so let’s not trouble Mr. Austen to run back and forth.”

Having said that, I pulled open the taxi door, ready to get in.

“Bang!” Walter slammed the car door shut, his handsome brows furrowed slightly, “Tabatha…”

“Walter.” His words didn’t come out when a soft, mellow voice of a woman came from not far away. Without looking, he knew it was Ashley.

With a belly of four or five months, Ashley jogged over to Walter, glanced at me, but completely disregarded my presence. Looking at Walter with eyes full of longing and worry, she said, “Walter, how could you suddenly go to Stonevale without telling me? I was worried sick.”

Upon seeing her, Walter’s brow furrowed slightly, but he still asked calmly, “How come you’re here?”

With a face full of worry and a hint of coquettishness, Ashley said, “And you’re still talking? I was worried that you wouldn’t be able to sleep. Once I knew you were coming back, I came to pick you up with Mr. Austen.”

Roy parked the car and followed, looking at me with a hint of apology on his face. Then he turned to Walter and said, “Mr. Hinton, ma’am, Ms. Conner insisted on coming, I couldn’t stop her.”

Walter didn’t say much, just said, “Let’s go, get in the car.”

As he spoke, he reached out to grab me. I dodged him and saw Alexander coming from afar. I looked at Walter and gave him an

unfamiliar smile, saying. “Someone is here to pick me up, I won’t bother Mr. Hinton anymore.”

After speaking. I turned to Roy, smiled faintly, and said, “Mr. Austen, it’s time to change your address. I’ve divorced Mr. Hinton. You’d better not call me ‘Mrs.’ randomly in the future.”
