She was not the daughter of the Conner family, she was just a child my mother had taken in out of kindness many years ago.”

Carley was probably stunned by my successive messages, remaining silent for a while. She looked at me incredulously and said, “Are you saying. Ashley is not the biological daughter of the Conner family?”

I nodded. My parents had never spoken about this matter to outsiders. Most of the people who knew about it were now either dead or had moved to other cities. Naturally, no one knew that Ashley was not actually the daughter of the Conner family.

After a long while, Carley let out a deep sigh, “In that case, what you just said does make sense.
