Ambition and obsession - Season 1 Episode 4
“Stop thinking about it, you brat! I’m the one who gave birth to you, so I know what your father looked like,” Nicole replied. Then, she warned quietly, “Don’t call any random guy ‘dad’ again. Otherwise, I’ll leave you abroad and not bring you back.”
Hayden curled his lips. Despite his urge to respond, he didn’t make a sound for fear that his mother would really leave him abroad.
Nicole left the airport with her son to hail a taxi. Since she returned to the country every year to visit her mother’s grave, she bought an apartment in Goldwick. At just 80 square feet, the apartment was anything but spacious, but it was big enough to accommodate her and her son.
She had just hailed a taxi and was about to stuff her luggage into the trunk when she suddenly spotted a figure in the distance. This tall figure in black who gave off chilly vibes, isn’t that the narcissistic freak I just met outside the airport bathroom?
Standing beside the man was a tall, thin woman who looked strongly familiar to Nicole from behind. Well, to be able to pair up with such a freak, this woman probably isn’t sane either, Nicole thought mischievously as she looked away.
It was already evening when Nicole finished tidying up the house after returning home. As she gathered herself together, she suddenly noticed that Hayden was unusually quiet today, and a bad feeling came over her. Walking over to the sofa, she saw Hayden doing something on the laptop on his lap. When she walked over to take a look, she realized that he was holding an ID card in his hand!
The man with the ID card was pursing his thin lips, looking stern with his steely black eyes. Even though it was just a photo, one could tell that he was very full of himself. I-Isn’t he the freak from the airport?! “Hayden, where did you get this ID card?” Nicole struggled to suppress her urge to curse. Since when did Hayden become so capable of stealing someone’s ID card…
Hearing his words, Hayden closed his laptop with his ID card in hand. Raising his face, he replied with a serious face, “I picked it up from the ground. I wanted to return it to the man first, but I didn’t because he was mean to us.”
Nicole glanced at the sofa, only to be speechless upon seeing a black wallet placed next to Hayden. That guy seemed to have quite a bit of experience. If we don’t return the wallet to him now, once he finds out, he’ll definitely think we’re thieves. There’ll be no way to prove our innocence then!

She felt rather helpless. This son of mine really won’t give me a day’s rest, she thought. She picked up her wallet from the couch and leafed through it. Inside were a dozen hundred-dollar bills and a good number of cards, from which she took out one that looked like a business card.
The business card was very simple; it only had a name and a phone number on it. “Colton Gardner…” Nicole muttered aloud. She couldn’t help but feel like she had heard the name somewhere. No matter what, we’ll return it before anything else, or else we’ll be in trouble. She dialed the number on the business card.
It took a few seconds for the call to connect. “Hello?” A deep, cold male voice greeted Nicole’s ear.
Feeling her skin crawl in an instant, Nicole explained, “Hello, I found your wallet. I’m…”
“Are you the woman at the airport?”
Nicole was startled. She didn’t expect the man to have such a good memory that he could recognize her just by her voice. “Yes, it’s me.”
Colton chuckled, but his words were dark. “You’re quite the crafty one, aren’t you? Now you have a valid reason to find me again.”
