Alpha Dom and His Human Surrogate - Season 5 Episode 92
“So you’re okay? Are you both okay?” my companion asks, pressing his forehead against mine, still reeling from the strange news of the Dark God’s gift.
“We are,” I say, nodding, sure of it. And then I move again and hand the baby to him. “See for yourself, new daddy,” I sigh, placing the little girl in her father’s arms.
On Sinclair’s face, and through our bond, I see his heart melt completely. “Oh God,” he sighs, shaking his head as he looks at his little girl. “I’m a failure, Ella. She already has me in the palm of her hands, even as I have her in mine.”
“Don’t worry,” I sigh, snuggling up to him, enjoying the sight of my partner, the one I love most in the world, falling in love with our little girl, just like I already did. “I won’t tell him the power he wields.”
“It will be our secret,” she says, nodding and with a small smile on her lips. We stay silent for a moment, studying her, when suddenly I realize that she doesn’t have a name.
“What do you think?” I ask quietly, resting my head on his shoulder. “Is she an Emma? Or an Eloise?”
My partner’s smile deepens as he looks at me, and I already know his answer before he says it, because it’s exactly the same as mine.
Those names are cool, but they’re not hers.
“No,” Sinclair says, smiling at me before turning back to his little girl. “She’s totally and completely an Ariel.”
“I know,” I sigh, running a finger down his cheek. “Welcome to the world, Ariel Sinclair. You are already very, very loved.”
And Ariel stretches her mouth into a wide yawn before snuggling into her father’s arms, happy and content. Sinclair and I laugh at the sight, and I know his heart, like mine, is very full. I pass on my joy and love to them both, and am totally thrilled when Ariel returns a tentative little pulse of love as she gets used to her new surroundings.
The next hour is busier than I’d like, with the doctors coming back into the room so I can finish up the post-birth work and make sure our sweet Ariel is healthy and happy. But even as I feed her for the first time, deliver the placenta, shower, and am completely exhausted from it all, I can’t stop smiling and turning to Ariel across the room, eager to keep my eyes on her.
My baby, my little girl. I’m so excited that she’s here, that she’s mine. God, her whole life is in front of her and I can’t wait to watch her live it.
Once the doctors have given us the final okay (at least for now, the nurses will of course be on hand all night should we need help with anything), we settle in together as a family. Roger walks into the room with a tearful Rafe on his hip as Cora finishes swaddling Ariel and hands her to Sinclair. Henry walks into the room behind Roger with a sleeping Jesse on his lap, excitedly searching for his first granddaughter as he closes the door behind him.
“Mom!” Rafe screams, his voice so terribly sad it breaks my heart.

“Ohhh, baby,” I murmur, running over to Roger and taking my oldest baby into my arms. “It’s okay, we missed you!”
“This is probably the longest he’s been away from you in… months, Ella,” Roger murmurs, smiling at me and giving me a small hug as Rafe rests his head against my chest. Henry and Cora walk over, Cora wrapping her arm around Roger’s and resting her head on his shoulder.
“Maybe someday,” I sigh, shaking my head. He really is my little Velcro baby, almost always with me. But then again, it’s not entirely his fault that I can be accused of being an overly attached parent.
But I don’t know if that matters to me. I just… like being around my son. Kids, now.
“Poor little guy,” I murmur, stroking Rafe’s sweet head and turning to where Sinclair is approaching with the baby. “He missed us.”
Rafe sits up with a little yelp and holds out a hand to Sinclair, wanting him to be close too.
“We’re sorry, kiddo,” Sinclair murmurs, smiling at his son and taking Rafe’s hand, leaning in to kiss it. “But we were busy! Mom was doing all the work to get you a new baby sister.”
Sinclair then turns slightly, showing Rafe the baby, and Rafe sits up straight to look at Ariel.
We all stand very still for a moment, watching the brothers meet for the first time, but suddenly Rafe gives a little yelp of disgust and turns his head away, closing his eyes and gripping my robe tightly in his fists, not wanting to let go.
We all burst out laughing at Rafe’s little jealousy and I pet his head some more, murmuring sweet nothings to him as I carry him to our freshly made bed, the rubber sheets and dirty clothes thankfully already changed. I sigh a little in gratitude, thinking that maybe it’s
Kind of nice to be queen for things like this. And then I sink back into my pillows, taking Rafe with me and beckoning my family over.
“You need to be nice to the sissy, Rafe,” I whisper as he looks at his father, clearly letting his curiosity about his baby sister get the better of his jealousy. Sinclair plops down on his side of the bed and shifts so his side is pressed against mine. Henry steps closer and hands Jesse to Cora as she and Roger move in as well. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

I turn Rafe on my lap so he can see Sinclair’s arms more fully. Rafe turns his head and looks at his sister as if she’s a tiny alien or a completely foreign species, which makes me smile.

“Her name is Ariel,” Sinclair whispers to his son, and I look over when I hear Cora gasp. I smile when I see her pressing her hand to her chest, her eyes almost closed in joy.
“Perfect name,” he tells me, and I laugh and nod enthusiastically, turning to my son.
“What do you think, little Rafey?” I murmur, rubbing his back as he leans down to touch his sister. “Will he?”
Rafe mumbles something to Ariel, which makes me smile, but the moment his fingers press against my cheek, I gasp. Sinclair does too, his eyes darting to mine.

“Did you feel it too?” I breathe, suddenly very excited.
“I did,” she replies, laughing and nodding. We both turn our heads to Rafe, who smiles at his sister for the first time. Ariel squirms a little in her blanket, smacking her lips and turning her head to the side, clearly feeling sleepy.
“Wait, what is it?” Cora asks, leaning over.
“A bond,” I say, turning to her and smiling, “like with Rafe and Jesse.”
“Oh,” she says, standing up straight and looking at her son in her arms.
“Great,” Roger breathes, looking between the babies. “What do you think that means?”
“Still in the dark, bro,” Sinclair mutters, looking curiously at Jesse now. “We should…”
“Is it too much?” I ask, suddenly anxious, looking at my new baby. “Is it enough to be born and then have a new bond in one day?”
“In this family?” Sinclair asks, his voice dry. “She’ll have to get used to being overwhelmed.”
I laugh a little, nod, and then when my partner looks at me, clearly wanting to know what I’m thinking, I just shrug, because frankly, I’m curious too, and what could it really hurt?
“Come on,” Sinclair murmurs, placing the sleepy Ariel on the bed and gesturing for Cora to put her baby down as well. “Come on… let’s try it.”
So, rather cautiously, Cora lays Jesse down next to his new cousin, whispering a sweet little introduction as she does so. As soon as the babies are laid down next to each other, Jesse blinks and frowns for a minute, turning to Ariel as if he’s suddenly realized she’s there. And then I break out into a smile as he actually reaches for her, reaches for her.
The moment her little hand touches his face, it happens again, making me jump a little this time. The bond – SO small, SO weak! – clicks into place and my smile deepens.
“Wow,” Sinclair says, shaking his head. “This is incredible. I’ve never heard of anything like this happening before.”
And then all four parents are laughing as I move to lay Rafe down next to his little cousins, careful to place him next to Jesse, who is a little sturdier. I don’t want my precious meatball to fall on my baby in his first few hours of life.
“Someone will have to fill me in here,” Henry murmurs as he alternates between smiling at his three grandchildren and looking curiously at his children and their colleagues.
“Kids have bonds, Dad,” Sinclair says, smiling at his father and running a hand through his hair in wonder. “With each other, apart from us, their parents.”
“Really,” Henry says, raising his eyebrows and a smile of pleasure and curiosity appearing on his face. “Good. I mean, I knew they were special kids. But I didn’t expect that.”
“Have you ever heard of anything like this happening before?” Roger asks, looking at his father.
“I’ve… heard of something like that,” Henry mutters quietly before looking around at us. “Though it wasn’t between siblings and cousins, and I’m not entirely sure it applies.”
“Really,” Sinclair says, looking at his father excitedly, wanting to know more.
