Sakura’s standpoint

I’d felt fear before, but none was like the one I felt when walking back into my home. I knew mom was waiting for me. It wasn’t like she would hit me, she never hits anyone as punishment. But honestly, beating was better than the fear of any random thing she would do or three hours of her talk and glare. One time, I peed on myself.

Isaac kept staring at me worriedly, confuse on why I was so afraid of her. He probably thought she hit me, that was why he came along to protect me. If only he knew what he had gotten himself into. Mom was sweet, but very stern with her rules and children. I brought him along because it was his fault and I wasn’t going to receive punishment alone.

I snuck to the kitchen with Isaac to see if she was home, then checked the rooms but she wasn’t home. I was breathing with relief when I walked into the living room again and saw her there. The shock made me scream and jump back. Isaac caught me by the waist, startled by her presence too. Mom sat on a leather armchair, legs crossed, body relaxed as she ran her fingers into the fur of a black cat.

“Welcome home, Sakura,” She said sweetly, the kind of sweetness that made chill run down my spine and shiver.

I laughed nervously, “haha, good evening, er… Hi, hi, er…”

“Hi?” She asked with her sweet smile still on. I gulped and nodded. She was so calm; a scary calmness. “Do you see my new cat?” She asked, stroking the cat’s ear, “I found her in the streets, homeless and pregnant,” the way she pronounced the pregnant made me shiver with fear. “Some handsome cat somewhere just deceived her into his bed, got her pregnant and left her all alone to suffer. I’m sure her mother threw her out of the house,”

“Mom, cats don’t have houses,” Rosita’s voice made me scream. I didn’t even see her there or when she entered. She was eating from a bag of chips with legs crossed too, a bored look on her face.

“Rosita, do you know that roses are bound to die quicker if they try to interfere in daisy’s business?” Mom asked with a force grin. Rosita nodded and ran her fingers over her lips, zipping it and throwing away the key. She wasn’t going to come to my rescue.

“Good,” mom turned back to me, “so, tell me, Sakura, What do you think this cat was thinking when the male cat was busy banging her?” Isaac chuckled from behind me, “I’m sure she thought it was sweet and kept screaming his house down,” her glare flashed briefly, causing Rosita to choke on her chips in a laugh.

“It…it…” I quickly went behind Isaac and pushed him forward, “he made me do it!”

“Haha!” Rosita burst into a spittle filled laughter as she sank down in the chair. Isaac was stammering incoherently as he too started feeling my fear.

“No,” Isaac cried, raising his hands up in confusion and panic, “I would never risk her health by oversleeping with her. I wouldn’t want to exhaust her…”

“So my Sakura isn’t good enough to be taken all night and exhausted? What kind of insult is that?” Mom hissed, jumping up to her feet and throwing away the cat. Only then did I know the cat was a toy.

“I…I…”

“Isn’t she perfect? Have you seen me? Have you seen all of this?” She ran her hands over her body sexily. “She looks exactly like me and has my physique, so you are insulting me too. Am I not beautiful?”

“Are you trying to flirt with me?” Mom snapped.

Isaac whimpered in confusion and panic while I stood there like an idiot, in confusion too. “I would never flirt with you because you are not my type, I don’t like older women,” mom burst into tears, a sudden tears that scared the shit out of me. She fell back on the chair and began to wail.

“Rosy, he called me old,”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way,” Isaac cried. His voice was shaky and he actually wanted to cry.

“Sakura, you brought home a man to insult your mother and make her cry? How cruel can you be? What have I done to you?” Mom cried. I walked close to her to comfort her, but she swat my hands away. “Leave me, go back to him, start staying with him, you are no longer my daughter!” She screamed, jumped up and made to run to her room.

Isaac quickly went on his knees and held her legs. “Please, mother, don’t be angry at me, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to call you old, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. Please, don’t disown Sakura because of me. I didn’t know, I didn’t know this would hurt you so much…”

“Go back to your mother and take that tramp with you!” My heart squeezed at her words. Mom really hated me. The realisation made me throw myself at her feet too and began to cry and beg helplessly. If she disown me, I would end my life, I would never be able to take the pain of being away from her or my siblings.

If I knew it would hurt her to this extent, I would have returned home. The world felt like it was ending on me, like it was going to drop on my head and crush me. Rosita wasn’t even helping because she didn’t want to become homeless again.

“Ma’am, I didn’t say you were old, I said you were too old for me… I mean, you deserve a man your age to adore you, to treasure your beauty. A man who would bow at your feet and worship the very dirt you step on. Who wouldn’t do that for a queen like you? You can shake this entire planet with just the sway of your magnificent hips if you wish to. I’m very sure all men crawls at the mention of your elegant name or the sight of the goddess that walks the earth. That is why I love your daughter, because she is a mini version of you, though not as beautiful as you. Mom giggled, “awwn, what a sweet tongue,” she giggled again. “Do you promise not to let her stay pass her curfew and make sure you take permission before keeping her for the night?”

“I promise,” I felt hope as her tone returned to normal.

“For permission, you will have to bribe me every time. And a week, you’ll drop a thousand dollars for every touch and kisses and of course, the sex,” my jaw dropped but I couldn’t say anything. Isaac nodded. “And you promise not to break her tender heart again or get her pregnant? I’m too sexy to be a grandma,”

“Always use condom and make sure she takes her pills.” What kind of mother encourages sex?

“Then, I bless your union. When is the wedding?” Isaac and I choked on our saliva, his more severe. Mom stepped out of our hold as she began to laugh wholeheartedly.

“Mean?” She laughed and then abruptly stopped. I fell back on my butt as her legendary glare came forth. Isaac did too. “Mean? You left my house, left my care, and was sleeping with your ex? Is it because I’m taking this lightly!” She screeched. I started scrambling back as she made her way to me. My heart hammered against my chest. The look in her eyes made it clear that she was going to hit me or pull my ears hard. She always did that to Reece.

“Mom, I’m sorry. I swear, I will never let him touch me until I grow old!” I shouted.

“Eh?” Isaac said. Mom burst into laughter again, ran towards Rosita and gave her a high five.

“Rosy! Aren’t I amazing?!” She shrieked in English.

“Fantabulous!” Rosita shouted back with her own Australian accent. They both fell on the ground as they continued to laugh. Isaac finally knew why I was afraid of my mother.

When they were done, mom wiped her tears with a toothy grin. “Now, step three of the punishment,” she smirked at Isaac’s whose pink face turned even more pink, “give me the entire detail of how you two got laid,” she wiggled her brows teasingly.

“Mom, you are joking,” I said incredulously.

“Oh, I’m not,” she shifted her smirk to a lopsided one, “it’s either you tell me, or I tell you how I conceived you. What will it be?” Rosita cackled evilly. “Decide,”

I looked at Isaac for help. For once, he had to come up with something. He is always so stupid. “I don’t know what to do”, his eyes said.

“Are you going to tell me or am I going to tell you the story of how I conceive you when your father and I went on this journey?” She stroke her chin thoughtfully, “it was on Thanksgiving Eve,” she started, “or was it valentine? I don’t know. Your father and I went to a party, newly dating you see…”

“Please, don’t tell me,” Isaac cried, “I’ll tell you instead.”

Mom clapped her hands joyfully. “Attaboy! Now get on with the story,”

Isaac gulped loudly. “Okay, so we kind of started kissing from the living room…”

“Wait,” mom shouted suddenly, eyes wide open.

“Mom? You change your mind?” I asked hopefully.

She gave me a look that said I was stupid. “I forgot the popcorn in the microwave, I’ll go get it,”

“Popcorn?” Isaac cried with dismay.

Neesan chuckled before giving me a ‘you owe me one’ look. “Mama, I haven’t told you about this boy I’m starting to like,” mom gasped and turned fully to Rosita, eyes wide with curiosity, “I’m afraid you wouldn’t want him for me…”

“Is it Zeddy? My third love?” Rosita frowned but nodded. Mom started shrieking and clapping with joy. “Tell me! Tell me! When did you finally accept it? Does he know? Does he love you? I can tell he likes you, although he also likes my first daughter but yours could work too. First come first serve, right?” Rosita nodded with a tight smile.

“Okay, we’ll talk after I’m done with Sakura…”

“He asked me out on a date but I don’t know what to wear,” she lied, shooting me harsh glares.

I’m going to sacrifice you, Sakura!

That was what she was screaming in her head. Mom stood up immediately and began dragging her to her room, raving about this fashion to the other. I breathe out with relief while Isaac collapsed on the floor.

“Never, Sakura. Never invite me or let me come here again.”

I was in the room I shared with Rosita, mom still rummaging through her bags for something she would wear. She had gone full fashion crazy. She still hadn’t decided what Rosita would wear. And she was panicking. Isaac was stuck answering Bloom’s fan girl questions, while Reece made sure they didn’t say their marital vows before we return from fashion hell.

Neesan was awfully calm about everything. After the first stage of fright, she was over it and smiling nonchalantly. I knew she was up to something.

“Gosh! What am I going to do?! You can’t go on a date looking like this,”

“Mom, my clothes are fine. Romi picked them herself,”

“I don’t care if Zoe picked them. This is my own daughter going on a date with the man of her dream; it must be perfect!”

Rosita sighed, “don’t you want him for your biological daughter? You did mention he helped you see her, right?” I looked between their two, not sure what they were fully heading at. Mom waved her hand dismissively.

“You are my daughter too. The chances of you getting him is higher than with her. You are here and your hatred for each other is clearly love. Theirs on the other hand, would be much harder to change. Either way, first come, first serve.” Mom shrugged.

Rosita’s phone rang. She daintily picked up her phone from the bed and answered it. “Oh, Zed, hi,” she rolled her eyes when mom gasped, “really? Why?” She scrunched her nose thoughtfully before nodding, “I understand. I guess we would see at your birthday party?… Okay, goodnight then.” She dropped the phone and sighed sadly.

“What happened?”

“Zedekiah called to cancel. He’s travelling to Korea to finalise some movie contract or something. He would only return before his birthday so we would see then.”

“More time to go shopping! I’m going to make you so hot his jaw is going to drop!”

“Actually, my friends already planned on doing that,” Rosita murmured.

“Bah!” Mom exclaimed. “This is my right. Tell your friends to fuck off, it’s my turn. Oh, I’ll need money to buy you something expensive and jewelry,” her happy face dropped as she remembered she didn’t have enough money, “I don’t have money to spoil my baby,” she whimpered. Rosita rolled her eyes and muttered to herself before grinning tightly.

“Zedekiah gave me his card, so you can go crazy with the shopping,” I giggled, which made her glare at me. It didn’t stop me from giggling. Mom’s joy returned. She started packing the clothes as she listed the best shops to get the best jewelry and shoes and bags and dresses.

“Thank you, Neesan,” I mouthed. She did it for me, and I was grateful she did. If she didn’t, mother would never have forgotten her punishment. Now, she had something to be excited for all week.

After mom was done, she went out while Rosita told me she was going to try to reach Zed and beg him to follow the plan. Also, she had to convince the army of girls dedicated to bringing them together, that mother would handle the dress up. I was all alone in the room. I went to my shared bathroom to wash my face.

I was drying my face with my towel when I felt arms around me. I gasped and immediately dropped the towel, looking at Isaac through the mirror. “What are you doing?”

“I’m not sure that’s how it works,” I folded my leg into the bed, “if you really want to get pregnant, I know someone who can help,” she shot me a dirty look, which caused me to giggle. “What did the girls say?”

“They all screamed about how cool mom is and said they would go shopping with mom. Mom and them together is the end of the world,” she whimpered. I laughed at the face she made. “I haven’t called Zed though, he was busy.”

“Try again,” she waved her phone, showing me that was what she was doing already. The call connected after it third ring.

“Rosita?” Zed asked unsurely.

“Yeah, me. I need your help with something. I told mom you asked me out to save Isaac and Sakura from an embarrassing situation. I told her you cancelled since you are going to Korea tomorrow, right?” He hummed, “but we would be meeting at your birthday party. I know this sounds very uncomfortable, but will you be my date to your own birthday party? Please?”

“Yes,” he rushed out, “be my date. Mom won’t be there, so it would be good. It’s a small party and I was already planning to ask you,” he spluttered out. “Roe, about what happened with Sora…”

“Save it, not my business. What you do with your life is none of my concern, I only need your help with this. Oh, and I may need your credit card. Thanks, Dickhead.” She hung up and tossed the phone away, muttering ‘stupid manwhore’.
